hello

well ... what can i say ... i'm sorry it's been such a long time since you last heard from me. to hopefully make up

for it, cure news 14 is bigger (and i hope you think better) than ever before.

it's difficult to know where to start, as so much has happened in the last year...

the wish tour seems like forever ago now (i've included a couple of reviews which i felt you'd like to read anyway

as they bring back too many good memories not to be included!). i made it to 24 shows in total, if i hadn't moved

house half way through the european leg of the tour i'm sure i would have been to a few more!. 1992 will definitely

be one of my most memorable years! i met so many people, and made so many friends during the tour. i always find

it hard to believe just how many people go to every show. when it came to time to say goodbye to everyone i'd met

during the previous 9 months in dublin it really was quite sad!...

i hope by now you've all had the opportunity to see the excellent show, which opened in london, manchester, newcastle,

stockport and edinburgh simultaneously on 2 july. special thanks to ....... who's sent in a review, to let you know

what you're missing if you haven't been able to see it as yet. the film was shot over 2 nights (18/19 july) at the

palace, auburn hills, detroit on last year's wish tour. 8 cameramen were used each night (hence some spectacular

shots!). the black and white footage was filmed by local? art students.

i'm pleased to be able to confirm the following up and coming releases:

on 13 september the soundtrack of show will be released on 18 track double album (fixh 25), 18 track cassette (fixhc

25) and 14 track compact disc (fixcd 25). the tracks featured are as follows: tape* / open / high / pictures of you

/ lullaby / just like heaven / fascination street* / a night like this / trust / doing the unstuck / the walk* / let's

go to bed* / friday i'm in love / inbetween days / from the edge of the deep green sea / never enough / cut / end

(* not included on cd format).

the album was mixed by robert and bryan 'chuck' new at the wool house and the major earlier this year.

on 13 september show will be released on video, and will feature 6 additional bonus tracks: lovesong / boy's don't

cry / why can't i be you? / to wish impossible things / primary / a forest. (in case you're thinking of waiting for

the video instead of going to see the film - don't! the large screen version is so spectacular it's an experience

not to be missed! having said that, the extra bonus tracks on the video format are bound to be a real treat!

two other projects worth mentioning are the cure's version of jimi hendrix' 'purple haze', which was recorded a couple

of months ago. the track will be included on a hendrix tribute album (label/formats/cat no?) and will also include

tracks from a re-united cream, the red hot chilli peppers, pearl jam and neil young. the track was featured at the

launch of new radio station, virgin 1215 am, when it was the second track played on the station (despite the fact that

dj, simon bates announced it has 'hey joe'!) lots of you have asked why i didn't let you know in advance the track

would be featured - well, i didn't know myself - apparently it was recorded within 24 hours of the launch of the

station!

the cure have also recently recorded a new track for the film 'the crow' star brandan lee (bruce lee's son) was

actually killed in the death scene - spookily enough his father also died on set in similiar circumstances! other

confirmed acts featured in the sound track are nine inch nails and sonic youth.

as you probably know by now, porl sadly decided to leave the cure after 9/10 years. i believe he had taken the

decision whilst on tour last year, but decided to stay on to complete the tour and recording commitments. i'm pleased

to let you know that he and janet now have a son, tod hollow, born on ....... porl has very kindly still answered your

questions in this issue, and i promise i'll let you know his future plans and news.

all in all the cure event of the year has to be their appearance at great xpectations, the concert arranged in support

of independent radio station xfm's bid for a london wide licence. the band played a brilliant and totally

unpredictable set as the new 4 piece line-up. the set list was as follows: shake dog shake / shiver and shake, 100

years, just like heaven, push, fascination street, open, high, from the edge of the deep green sea, disintegration,

end, friday i'm in love, three imaginary boys, it's not you, boys don't cry, fire in cairo, a forest. a live album

of the event featuring two cure tracks (just like heaven and disintegration) has just been released on album

(xfmlp1??) cassette (xfmcs1??) and compact disc (xfmcd 1). if you would like any more news on xfm, who are now

awaiting news on their application, please write to:.... i think the show was even more special as it will definitely

be the cure's only live appearance this year.

lots of you have requested information on sheet music. the music to three cure albums is now in print. it can be

difficult to get hold of, but by quoting the isbn to any decent book shop, they should be able to order for you:

thanks for all your reviews, comments and opinions. please keep writing to me with any ideas you have to improve the

service. i know most of you would like to see more frequent issues, and obviously i'll endeavour to achieve this (i

know it sounds like an excuse but it really does take several months just to accumulate the information for one

issue!) add this to the fact that it can take up to 4 months to get responses back from fans on the other side of

the world and it's not difficult to understand why each issue takes so long to put together. having said that, i will

attempt to get cure news 15 out by the very beginning of next year. i can't put cure news together without you. so

please send your contributions to me as soon as possible.

before i go i want to thank a few people who have given me the encouragement and assistance i needed to get this issue

together - thanks to chris, ita, maddie, linda, bruno, ruth, and, of course, all the band. thanks also to

............... for their reviews.

love

janie
