Songs 5 and 6 weren't recorded Jan 1980 as indicated on the 17 Seconds Deluxe Edition CD, the songs were originaly played at the Amsterdam - De Melkweg club on the 12.12.1979. The band finished touring? at Ghent in Belgium on December 23rd 1979. They started reheasals at Rob's parents house on Jan 3rd. Then they recorded the 17 Seconds LP at Studio One in Willesden from Jan 13th till Jan 20th 1980. 11 songs were then mixed from Feb 4th till Feb 10th. It was then released late March 1980. The first Gig was on March.06.1980 London - Marquee Club. ;)
Sparse and atmospheric this album is a great real start for the Cure after their debut with TIB. Listening with hindsight you can see the direction the Cure are going to take and the album is full of the darker moments of later albums. The second disc is a treat with the Cult Hero side project work included in both studio and live versions. The songs are actually pretty rubbish I think but they're good fun. There are some more of those great personal sounding demos included as well with the band giggling their way through a version of Secrets at home. There are so many live songs on this disc that it could almost be considered a live album to sit along the actual album.
