Never my favourite Cure album but reading the liner notes that come with this reissue its clear why The Top sounds so, well odd. It's a confused mess of a CD with no particular sound to speak of. There is a sense of derrangement in lots of the songs which have been reproduced. In contrast to the higher than high vocals on some of the tracks the studio demos of songs like Ariel and Birdmad Girl, Robert sounds tired and desolate in these moments.
Having said that this isn't my favourite album theres some great songs on here my favourites being Birdmad Girl, Shake Dog, Shake and The Caterpillar. Second disc crammed with extra goodies as well.
