FUCKING EVER! AGghghggg!!! I don't think my writing ability can even express how freaking amazing it was to see them, but I'll try. They were supposed to be on at 9:25 but didn't start 'til 9:50. Who cares! Anyway. I had a strange fear that they would send an imposter out on stage to do the show and I'd spend the whole time singing and yelling and cheering for someone not worth it - not Robert Smith! But I'm entirety positive it was most definitely him. I could see his face in person, and I don't mean on the monitor, but in real life. I was probably about four rows from the front, but a bit more to the side than I wish I'd been. I spent the entire three hours finagling my way toward the center, but everyone was pretty well packed in there. I got very awkwardly personally close to a lot of people, I now realize. I embrace it as part of the experience. There are few things comparable to the feeling of being at the center of a charged crowd, especially when you are just as excited as everyone else is to be there. Oh, did I mention it was three hours long? Yes! Way longer than I would have expected from them! I mean.. Robert Smith turned 50 today. Get what I'm saying here? But hey, guess what! At like 12:50 the Coachella Fest security guys finally turned off the monitors, sound, and most of the lights. But did Robert Smith stop singing? Nope! He sang through two more songs. I didn't actually hear him singing, all I could hear were the drums and faintly the guitar, which must have been hooked up to an amp onstage that was still powered. It was very faint though. Robert Smith sure managed to continue to make a show of it with no voice. The crowd helped too. They sang every word of Boys Don't Cry. What a perfect finish! Loved every minute of it. They played all my favorite songs. Specifically, Disintegration and From the Edge of the Deep Green Sea . Both just, incredible. Prayers For Rain too, amazing. They played Jumping Someone Else's Train after Boys Don't Cry with no sound as well. And I didn't realize 'til reading about it just now, they started a third song Grinding Halt but the Coachella people cut all the power on stage and they couldn't finish. I do love that they played a song that says "no light / no sound / no people" then "everything's coming to a grinding halt". True.
