Underneath The Stars without the production

When I first heard this song it was a live version I watched on Youtube and I was absolutely blown away at how great it was. It reminded me of the magic that made me love The Cure in the first place so needless to say I was anticipating great things from this record. I do like the song on the album but it is very frustrating when I hear all the "echoey" effects that nearly make the vocals indecipherable, they weren't needed. This unnecessary production doesn't add to the song, it only takes away from it. Just record the song the way you would play it live and it would be so much better.

Hmm...

I'll have to have a look on Youtube then, as I really like that song, and if it's even better live, then I think it will rate up there on my favourites list!

Cats... x x

Hey, peeps :)

Jason, I have to TOTALLY agree with you on this!! I was a little disappointed hearing the CD version after falling in love with the live versions!! I still love this song, but I would have very much preferred it without all of the effects going on that seem to take away some of the magic for me.

:)

I fell in love with this song live.

It took me a few listens to adapt to the vocals on the lp. After a few listens, it's grown on me =) It's a fabulous song. I can't wait to hear it live again.

i agree with you

i got a bit disapointed when i heard the studio version compared to the live version from rome, its to much echo added to his vocals and it drownes his beautiful voice.

I agree

I'm not big on the "other dimension" sound to RS' vocals...

I agree, and had the exact same thought...

...it is such a beautiful song (one of their best ever, perhaps?) and the vocal effects don't do it justice at all.

UTS

I think that's the risk of hearing one version before another... in this case live before studio. The live version was mind blowing - but that is The Cure live, (we all watched those youtubes so many times before we got the record in hand). I like both. Perhaps a few more listens it will grow on you. :)

I do like the song but I think it would be better without the effects. If I had never heard it before maybe I would love it the way it is. It has grown on me but still in most cases production doesn't make songs better in the long run, you can listen to something over and over again if its raw and honest sounding but when theres added gloss where its not needed, it cuts down the replay value.
