NEW DRUMMER PLEASE!!!!

The Cure needs a new drummer for the next tour/record. 4:13 is a great album spoiled by simple, generic drumming. I know this has been discussed several times before, and many fans have asked for the return of Boris Williams. I am not asking for that much. If it happens in 2009, then it could be the best thing to happen to The Cure since 1992.

Anyway, Robert, please recruit a new drummer. I know you have noticed the improvement in sound when Porl returned to the band. Jason has played on 4 albums, and he still sounds like an amateur drummer. The Cure needs a new drummer or Boris Williams. Please listen to the recordins in studio and live from 85-92 and you will tell the difference.

So far there hasn't been a single drummer that has lasted for more than 4 consecutive albums. Lol drummed in 4 albums; Three Imaginary Boys, Seventeen Seconds, Faith and Pornography. Boris drummed in 4 albums; Head on the Door, Kiss me, Disintegration and Wish. Jason has drummed in Wild Mood Swings, Bloodflowers, The Cure, and 4:13 Dream. I hope this pattern continues!!!

BORIS!

BORIS! absolutely!
I saw him play on the Disintegration and Wish tours and was so completely in AWE of his talent.

I say bring back the Kiss me/Disintegration/Wish Lineup (minus Lol) altogether. The Cure's Clearly best lineups and live, all parts played by someone (keyboards on playback on this last tour? not cool. When all the parts aren't live it really takes away from the spontaneity and "liveness" of the show.)

Robert
Simon
Porl
Boris
Roger

Best Cure.

Would love for the "dark" album to follow 4:13 to have this lineup.

Don´t look back in anger...

We all love the way Boris played, but Boris decided to leave and Jason came. We all have to live with that, and I´m sure apart from the technical knowledge in drumming, RS needs someone who fits in the Cure idiosyncrasy, and Jason seems to fit perfectly... otherwise he would have left a long time ago.

It´s about we all took over from Boris departure. It´s been 15 years!

When will we learn

Okay. So this is not the first time we've seen this opinion being shared. Clearly the powers that be don't seem to care about that opinion, and Jason stays. So why keep nit picking at the man? It's not going to change things.

No...

...Have you seen him play live? I wouldn't describe his drumming as "simple" or "generic", if anything I think there are times when he could lay off the toms a bit.

Honestly, I'm sick of this argument. If Boris came back, that would be awesome, but Jason is great too.

I've said this before...I can't imagine Roger fitting in with this lineup and their style the way it is now.

No complaint abut Jason

Most of my musician friends, the guitarits and the bassists, are happy about Jason because his somewhat unique drumming, which is completely different from Boris's, had a great influence on Simon.

Even Simon seemed hard to get used to Jason's drumming at the beginning, but while adjusting himself to Jason's beats, he drastically changed his style of playing the bass.
It is obvious that Simon's bass sounds much heavier and more colorful, and he's much more lively on stage now than before.

BS ----- BS ----- BS-----

This argument is not valid.
1) We can all agree that Robert is a creative genius. He would not allow Jason to play something that he didn't have a hand in orchestrating.
2) I find that Jason more than gets the job done. I don't understand all these complaints. I saw them twice this summer and he rocked!
3) These people making these comments- Let's see your qualifications. If you don't like him and you aren't raking in the dough and recognition that he is- get the H$ll off of here or keep your opinions to being constructive and not redundant.
4) I loved Roger and really wish that he was still here, but such is life. He moved on and now I support his new projects along with the Cure.

Jason..

he drums like a dream! And Roger is never coming back (at least not any time soon), he does not want to come back either. He's doing his own thing.

It's settled. Robert made it so.

Now, onwards...

Keep Jason.

Jason is a much better drummer than Boris.
Sure, Boris had some moments of creative genious (In Between Days) but when it comes to actual skill, Jason is far superior.

If you go back to Wish and Kiss Me, you will see the drumming is rather sparse in parts, with Boris leaving it to Porl, Robert and Roger for the actual 'sound' then look at Bloodflowers and The Cure and you will see the drums have become a much larger part of their sound.

To put it bluntly, Boris wouldn't survive if asked to play a different beat to 39, The End Of The World or Taking Off.

In my opinion; Jason > Boris > Lol > Andy

The way I feel about it is this..

Whoever is in the band at the moment, is who Robert WANTS in the band (as well as his band mates, I'm sure). If he did not want them, or feel they were/are not right for the band in any given time, they are asked to leave, or leave on their own, etc.

The point is, in this band, in this time, Jason is right for the band as it is now. If that ever changes, it will not be to pacify the whims of fans, but because Robert and company feels it's time for a change.

Not all exits from bands are boots, most are when people realize they have reached the end of their contribution, and it's time to move on.

Ok? That settled? :-P

EXACTLY!

Well done DJ.

Roger o'Donnell said on his webiste that if he hadn't been booted from The Cure, he would've left anyway.

Boris also left on his own accord.

I too am sick of hearing this lament. I suspect this sentiment is from those fans who think The Cure peaked at 'Disintegration.' Listen, Boris Williams was a fine drummer. However, to me he is just a really good timekeeper. Jason Cooper has more talent and skill. Take a listen to the 'Trilogy' DVD, Jason can play all of Boris' parts with ease. I doubt the reverse is true. Jason is no amateur. He brings very much to the band. I think his drumming is considerably more complex than much of what Boris did. An excellent example is on "Truth Goodness and Beauty" from 'The Cure' CD. I am longtime Cure fan and when Jason joined for the 'Wild Mood Swings' CD I was a bit disappointed, but I opened my ears (and my mind). Jason is as solid as he can be on the skins.

It is 2008 and time to evolve...Antartica.

I have seen this post for the last couple of days but didn't open it and read because I'm so fucking sick of the Jason bashing I could kick a wall.

And then, I decided to open it this evening and to my surprise the whole first page is people sticking up for Jason!

Kudos to the Cure fans who support Jason. I think he's a fantastic drummer. Listen to It's Over and tell me he is not fucking rocking those drums out!!!!!

WAAAAYYYYY TRUE!

There are a LOT of songs where Jason shines. I don't get the mouthy rudeness of people knocking him at all.

Anybody who says anything rude about Robert i think i hate those people. real hate too. not just feigned hate. I hate.

I plain fucking tired of the snobbish negativity and other stuff like so-called know it all (HA!) music criticizers who seem to think their opinions actually mean something to anybody. They don't. i'm sick of reading crap explanations of things that do not and apparently cannot know because they have shit taste in music if they have ANYTHING WHATSOEVER to say negative about The Cure, Robert, or any album The Cure has put out, most especially this newest one. I'm sick of it. TOTALLY SICK OF IT. I think those people are either emotionally retarded or in some way brain damaged. At the very least, just plain rude.

translate >> you should stop to react as a 4 years child. "if you say bad things on the cure, RS or the others, you are fuckers !" : so childish. criticize is constructive, everybody can have an idea, respect is to listen the others, not to judge. Suzanne must be a child who defend her puppets..

sick of it all

i'm sick to listen or to read that RS is the best, is a genius. Ok tey made very good albums, but how to say that they are the best. If it could help to live.. i find it ridiculous and dangerous. openminding is missing.

good luck

Jason Rocks

The Boris era ended close to 15 years ago. Jason has the been the drummer for half of The Cure's existence.

Jason's drumming on the new album is excellent and may be his best yet. Give him credit guys.

Besides, AFAIK Boris never wrote any songs and neither does Jason.
