I read an interview with Simon ages ago [I think it was with the now non-existent bassplayer magazine] where he said something along the lines of bassplaying being about not listening to anybody else and just doing what you feel is right. Unfortunately, what I feel is right doesnt quite match up with how much I can afford to spend on a new bass! |

I can also play Close To Me, Lullaby, Boys Don't Cry and a couple of others but I want to learn how to play more of the obscure parts. |

I'm getting better at learning and playing other peoples basslines without the use of tabs, but I think my 'skills' [and I use the term loosely] won't improve from here unless I start learning to write my own basslines. | GardenMasses | Re: Are there many other bassplayers here?I play the drums, so I had to switch, can't play them in an apt. so i figure the bass, I suck at it, have to learn my chords, but I got a real great sound of it, so played like the drums with the rythm of the guitar, with lead, and made it echo, like jimi hen. got effects bass head phone amp, pretty sweet. I had to pawn it, needed the funds, it happens. It was a paz f-stringer, little long on the neck, so make sure you don't swing too fast, might take out, the singer, or lead guitar etc. anyway sweet sound. so going get something cheeper, but, with get another model later. |

And just so you know, the word you use to describe anyone who plays bass guitar is bassist. Like you'd say guitarist for someone who plays guitar or pianist for someone who plays piano. I haven't got anything particularly fancy though. Just a Redwood bass. It's black. I've only just started playing it. It was a Christmas present. |
