New York Times inaccuracy re: Robert Smith's lifeIn today's NYT online, I saw an article referencing Italian director Paolo Sorrentino's new film "This Must Be the Place", starring Sean Penn. Apparently, Sorrentino was a huge fan of The Cure growing up, and Penn's character is an amalgam of Sorrentino and Robert Smith.
Anywho, the journalist couldn't be bothered to do some simple fact checking, stating in the article, "Mr. Sorrentino explained, adding that the story was based on his own relationship and also that of Mr. Smith, who has been married to the same woman since he was 16." No.
I emailed her letting her know that Robert and Mary were certainly not married at age 16, but met when Robert was 14 and married when he was 29. I hope the Time issues a correction. A great example of lazy journalism.
