Dear Robert Smith, with great regret and rather astonishment I’ve read your comments about not wanting to play in Ecuador because “no one comes to Ecuador”. I would like to point out first, that we are considered one of the countries to give home to one of the seven natural wonders of the world; second, we are geographically standing on the center of the world; third, our cities are named cultural heritage because of the historic wealth upon us; fourth, our economy stands by a fully dollarized, free market economy; fifth, we are a worldwide leading exporter of shrimp, bananas and flowers and last but not least, you surprisingly happen to have an infinity of fans in which I include myself in, along with my parents, friends and everyone who enjoys your songs. Perhaps you know some of the great artists who have visited us: Air Supply, Aerosmith, Iron Maiden, Guns & Roses, Jon Bon Jovi, America, Kool and the Gang, Gloria Gaynor and many others, just to share a few examples. You see, there are many fans of the music of your generation and other different genres. I hope this serves to make you reconsider your comments and if you want to come to Ecuador we would receive you with our arms wide open. I'm 19 years old, from Guayaquil, Ecuador.

Paulina: I agree, Mr Smith must apologize. He is not showing any respect for Ecuador and even Sudamerica.
Anyway, maybe he had a bad day or was very tired for interviews. We are just asking (for some years to now) for a REAL and serious anouncement even if they come or not.

I must admit, I was surprised at his comments regarding playing in Equador. It was very harsh. As has been pointed out, other, huge bands have visited Equador, and the Cure should be no different

Hi, Robert Smith and THE CURE, I like your music and I feel very bad for your comments about your band won't play in our country, because "people don`t play in Ecuador". In this land you are very loved and have a lot of fans that will be happy for watching your show.... You owe us an apology.

IT`S NOT TRUE THAT 'PEOPLE DON`T PLAY IN ECUADOR'... Many bands from United Kingdom played in our country: Def Leppard, Ozzy Osbourne, Iron Maiden, Erasure, Deep Purple!!!!

Dear Robert, I Just want to say that I don´t care if you came or not to Ecuador, but I want you to know some things about the place that famous people don’t play, because your comment dont have bases. Here is part of and article that you can read and discover why others musicians like pink floyd, Bob Dylan, Manu chao, Jim Morrison and many others inspire 1 song or 1 disc in La Esperanza Ecuador, and this is a small argument of why Ecuador is special, And why people like you have never come to this wonderful country if you can`t appreciate the beauty of the nature and the society of Ecuador.

First, I take you to La Esperanza, Ecuador, a little-visited destination with an interesting past. La Esperanza is a tiny indigenous village about three-and-a-half hours from Quito and just 15 minutes from the city of Ibarra, in Ecuador’s northern Andes. So why on earth did big music names like Bob Dylan, members of Pink Floyd, Manu Chao and Joan Baez come all the way here to spend some time in this small, agricultural community?

Disappointing comment. Nobody deserves that. I wonder if they would make a latin american tour and drop by Lima,Peru like Sir Mac Cartney did.

I remember enjoying videos, drinking and dancing at a local video pub presenting the cure in Miraflores,Lima. It was long ago. And it was incredible. Dreaming is free. So do I.

I just stumbled upon this 'issue' at chain of flowers website and I've just read the whole topic here, repeating: Regarding the reference to Ecuador, perhaps He was - consciously or unconsciously - referring to Julian Assange? ???
