'Lullaby' Opening Lyric - Why is some of it missing?

First, what a great song, the melody, the tempo, everything...

However, there is one thing that troubles me...

Officially, according to this site, the opening lyric starts with:

'On candy stripe legs the spiderman comes'

However, on many websites, lyrics of this song begin with:

'I spy something beginning with s..'

This is plainly wrong.

In fact, in the official video, if one listens carefully, one can decipher:

'I spy with my little eye something beginning with U (You)....S ('Est-ce' pronounced 'S' means 'Is? that' in French) U (You)?'...

Fantastic play of words from The Cure. And never (correctly or incorrectly) captured!

Did anyone know Robert Smith studied French to A'Level at school?

Question: Why are the above lyrics not included officially? Intentional? Or not?

I do not know if Robert Smith monitors his band's website but I would be interested to know the reason why....

'I spy with my little eye something beginning with U (You)'

But

'I spy with my little eye something of fucking in you. S or 'Est-ce' i.e. French for 'His it'? U or You?

No wonder it never appeared in the official lyrics!!!

It's 'something beginning with S' but the S is drawn out :-)

I don't think there's a trick to it. There's even an 'S' behind the window in the clip.

Mixed Up was the first 'album' of the Cure's that I had. I was 13?

It's a fun album :) I think my first "album" was Staring At The Sea, then Pornography.. maybe 16? I can't really pinpoint a certain age. I do remember however the first time I saw a Cure video. It was "Just Like Heaven", I was maybe 9 or so and remember thinking .."Oh my, who is that"? I was enamored with Mr. Smith even then, soo gorgeous, and still is ;)

First vid I think I saw was The Caterpillar when Robert was at his tonsorially best imho. :)
It's such a pity he's a mere unkempt shadow of his former yummy self.

Lol often bore the brunt of in-jokes during the videos e.g having wet socks thrown at him in the Close To Me video.

However in the Why Cant I be You video Lol emerges from a pair of red lips. Rather than a mouth, the lips represent ladies genitalia. I don't know whether you the same word in the US, but in the UK 'c*nt' is a crude word for women's bits and is used as a derogatory insult.

So during the chorus Simon makes the figure 'Y' (Why), Lol is a 'c*nt, Robert is 'I', Porl 'B' (Be), and Boris 'U' (you)

Men can have a one track mind so you might be right about the lips. I've never thought about it but now I will, urr.

That word is an insult in Australia as well.
