12-21-12..any bets?

Okay everyone, the date is approaching, The Mayan calendar predicts a great change. What do you think will happen? Is it the end of the world? I had a patient today that was freaked out about this topic. I didn't know what to say! :D

I'm not sure... The Mayan calendar ends, but there's nothing in their writings that denotes the end of the world, just the end of an Age (I think that's what they called it). Who knows what kind of shift it stands for? But wasn't there something early this year in the Christian calendar that was meant to be the end as well?

Elsewhere I've read dat the Maya's know that all the planets will be on one line, this only happens once every, excuse me forgot I thought it was 26.0000 years

I miss my old cat Veronica, she died 10 years ago. could she maybe join as a zombie-cat. her special power, I think, would be pacifying people by jumping on their stomach (she was kind of big at the end)

the mayan calander doesn't end on 12-21-12 it is just the end of their "B'ak'tun" cycle, at the end of a cycle the mayans would have a big party

their calander actually extends well beyond that date with cycles that are much larger than B'ak'tun but are rarely used, it's just the end of of a B'ak'tun which is a period of 394 years, here is a table of their calander cycles and time frames easy to find on wiki
