Re: Hey Im New

I'm new too. I'm 37 years old and have been listening to The Cure since I was 12. Robert Smith is a genius and his music has accompanied me through some really insane times in my life. The Cure never ceases to inspire me to actually analyze and feel intensely the things that happen in my life and not just let them pass by unnoticed.

As far as picking a favorite song, it's impossible. My favorite albums are Faith, Pornography, and Join the Dots.

Hi.
I just discovered The Cure a few months ago, but I understand what you are saying about their songs helping you thru "insane times" in your life. With me, I think it is not just the lyrics, but actually the music that makes me feel somehow better. Anyway, I wish I had discovered them sooner (and this website as well).

Hi, and welcome to you too :-)

I think you are right, it is not just the lyrics but the music that makes you filled-up with emotions.

I was so lucky to discover them as young as 13. my sister took me down to her room in the basement and played lullaby for me. the first cure song I ever heard. I started to listen to them right away, but it took me some years (around 3) before I felt hopelessly, insanely and head over heels -in love with them.

Thank you MissArrOw (and cats_n_cheese) for welcoming me to this site.
I first came here just to find out if The Cure was planning to release any new material and instead stumbled upon an entire Cure society. Very cool.
I suppose you think it's silly of me to want new music from The Cure when actually all of their songs are still new to me, but I'm anxious to see which direction they'll take. It's like waiting for the next season of a favorite tv show.

no, not at all. it is always interesting to see what they will do next.
I personally hope they would do some very simplistic and striped down songs, like the ones on the first 3 albums. A new CD like three imaginary boys, would be lovely.
unfortunately I don´t think they are going that way on the next album (if we will ever get a next)

Re: Hey Im New

A return to the first 3 albums would be great! You don’t really think it’s possible that they won't release a new album, do you? I mean, how could a band with so much concert energy not have the burn to record new material?

I became familiar with The Cure by hearing one of their songs played at the mall. I don’t usually like “pop” songs, but this one seemed a little different: “I don’t care if Monday’s black, Tuesday Wednesday heart attack...” …That was describing my life! Later I searched their music on youtube and, after discovering albums like Three Imaginary Boys, Seventeen Seconds, and Faith, eventually ended up buying all their CDs--- actual, physical CDs, not just mp3s!

(Oops… I see I forgot to quote and reference MissArrOw’s post, but surely it’s obvious that I’m replying to her post.)

no, I think they will release a new album :-), think I have heard rumors of them being in the studio and its 4 years ago that they released the last one. But you never know.

You bought all their albums at once, cool. what about concert albums and singles collections. did you buy them too? (I love Paris)
And of course you need the physical albums. I buy a lot of music just electronically, but for The Cure I will need the albums in the old CD format with cover ect.

Which album do you like the best?
my favorite is pornography, but bloodflowers and disintegration and wish are also amazing........(well, fuck it, they are all amazing)

Re: Hey Im New

I'd love for them to go back to an older style. The last two albums weren't that good, and I worry that if they do release another album that it'll be along the same lines :-( RS has tinkered with the style too much and has lost a lot of the essence.

My favorite Cure album is, oddly enough, one which I seldom play… and some of my favorite Cure songs are not on my favorite Cure albums. (Weird, eh?) That said, here’s a fluid list of my favorites:
1) Faith, Pornography, Seventeen Seconds
2) Disintegration, Bloodflowers, Wish
Three Imaginary Boys should be included as a favorite simply because I use it therapeutically to clear out my head. I love that garage band sound--- it reminds me of my old garage band (except, of course, that it sounds good). I also like the live album Paris, which I bought along with Show (btw, the Show version of “A Night Like This” is truly excellent). Still, Faith comes in as my #1 album and even though it may be depressing to some, it actually cheers me up. This may be because I am a Christian and can feel the promise of ultimate joy after sadness. (Or maybe it’s just a cool album.) Basically though, I listen to all the Cure albums except possibly The Top, which I find a little annoying.
I don’t have any “single” releases (if that’s what you were asking), but Join the Dots makes me feel as if I have them all.
Okay, now for my question:
Why, why, why are some songs not included on the U.S. albums, but are included in the overseas releases? For example: “Going Nowhere” and “Truth, Goodness and Beauty.”
It just ain’t fair! Are we being punished for something?

Re: Hey Im New

It'll be down to some farce at the record company. RS doesn't seem to have as much sway as when the Cure were with Fiction

Okay then, good to know…I won’t take it personally anymore. Still I can’t help but feel like we’re missing out on stuff, here in the States.

Thanks for the explanation, cats_n_cheese.
