Wondering if......

Would you do the song "Killing an Arab" again? It seems they would probably lynch you for that. So much for freedom of speech.

They do sometimes sing the original lyrics, they did last year at the Royal Albert Hall,anyway the lyrics are more to do with being sent to a war without justification not any one culture.
I don't agree it does ruin the song by changing the words, RS often changes the words during live shows to a lot of his songs,I think its funny,but that's just my opinion..

I was under the impression that the song was based on the book by Albert Camus "The Stranger"

It was inspired by "The Stranger", I don't believe I've ever heard the pc lyrics. When I saw them last in 2008, they closed with that song and with the original lyrics. Everything is offensive to everyone anymore. You have to walk on eggshells just to convey an idea it seems.

That song makes me think of Papillon where the Arab had honey poured over him and was left for killer ants.

I would like to see the original lyrics kept regardless of political correctness or what the song's true meaning is and RS shouldn't have to defend it, it's art.

I was shopping online today and I actually saw golliwogs for sale, I nearlly fell of my chair. We're too sanitised.

And when they toured in 2008, they did use the original lyrics of "Killing an Arab". Don't think they should change it. It's art based on literary art. Leave it be....or as The Beatles would say "Let it Be".

I've been collecting the old Noddy books as they replaced the gollywogs with goblins. But it is easy to see why they banned them initially, particularly with the end part of their name as well!! I remember collecting the tokens on the jam jars and sending off for the badges (buttons)

Hmm, the whole concept is lost on me Cats. I don't remember them at all or the books. Maybe they never caught on here? I prefer goblins, hehe :)

I gues we all have had something from our childhood, that it is now banned because it is considered to be racist now.

DK has a lullaby. apparently it is not considered political correct to sing that an elephant will get a negro-boy (not really a political correct term, but that is what it says), that it can use as a rattle.

I think we should fight all these changes!

Thanks for the golliwog explanation.... Does anyone remember The Black and White Minstrels? Just looked it up and they were Brittish so don't suppose they made it to the U.S. either...
