I would love to listen if what they proposed would be real science. If they could proof that evolution did not exist, they would for sure get the nobel prize. the truth is that what they do is not science. like you have the bible, there are a lot of "rules" on how to do reliable science
An analogue for you of what they do could be something like this:
I sit down and write a book with a story on how earth became and humans came to exist. and then I go and say that it is true because it says so in my book.

This is NOT to offend the bible, it is just an analogue, so you will understand, that the argument they claims to be scientific, has nothing to do with science. Just like my book, would have nothing to do with the bible.

And
Of course
A lot of Love to you too :-)

I can see you point. But for me creationism despise EVERYTHING I believe in! even worse, they are lying!
I would love to teach you about evolution. You don´t have to give up your faith in God, to believe in evolution!

ya, I can see your point. And I also thought about looking at them, well because I think you should be open to changing your believes. But I have all ready seen a lot of the creationism argument, and they always makes me in a very frustrating mood. and right now I dont want to be frustrated. but maybe for you Levs, I will do it :-)

Re: I think this site is about to die again

This is a debate that has gone on for centuries :-) And will no doubt take just as long to come to some sort of conclusion, even if it's to agree to disagree! But the timing of Creation is off for me, science has proven that creation occurred AGES before Christianity (and other religions) say it happened.

My dear child, I just finished watching a dvd ( one of a series of eight) almost two hours of not only facts even some humor
I bought it because my eldest told me we are born out of just one single bacterium and that I REALLY had to see this documentary about the evolutiontheory.
About halfway I already got sleepy, it was like a childrensanimationmovie
He also told me .."".but I do believe in God, but what about Adam and Eve? ( he was not into God before and I don't really talk a lot about my religion, so this was a miracle to me :-)
I just told him that they were the first people on earth.
Someone adviced me to show him these dvd's from Dr. Kent Hovind

The complete Creationseminar

The first one is called: The age of the earth,2 The garden of Eden, 3 Dinosaurs( maybe this is not the right translation ) 4 Lies int the textbooks 5 The dangers of evolution 6 The Hovind Theory 7a Questions and answers
7b Questions and answers

True it did cost me ( around 50 Euro, is that about the same as dollars ? BUT save on a few hamburgers with a coke or whatever you can save some money from )
He also wrote loads of books, goes around in several States with his seminars

BUT IT IS REALLY IS AMAZING, so worthwhile
everyone SHOULD SEE IT ( AND I ONLY WATCHED THE FIRST DVD )

It's a livesaver,
This man has also a friend his book has the title: There are no atheists, and I agree

Missy you will see what's going to happen when I decide to spread my wings

PS

Suzanne I am so happy to see you here again. I also gave up smoking ( when I gave up I was thinking about you !) So you managed to help me from a distance without knowing

And now try it out!

Listen to this man , give it a try
You can also start with just buying one book
but watching a dvd is far more interesting

Levs, its fine you belive in God.
but my world is a totally different.
I have a master in Biology/Humanbiology and I am during a PhD in Radiation Biology/Cancer Therapy. Evolution is essential to the devlopment of cancer. If I didn´t believe in evolution I would not be able to do the work I do.
Look around you evolution happens everywhere at every time. evolution is involved in the development of cancer, the therapy resistantcy that somestimes happens during therapy, the rational behind combination therapy of HIV, the antibiotic resistantcy we see in some bacteria and I could go on and on and on!

Okie-dokie. I've been looking for a qualified Scientist who has credientials AND only believes in Evolution, etc.

Make me The Man. Not just any man, mind you. I want my own Robert Smith. When your crawly cell leaves the soup and My Very Own Robert Smith is done evolving into My Own Man...then leave a message here on the forum. I'll pay for the shipping.

-----------------------

Bridget,

Congratulations on quitting smoking!!! *applauds* Seriously, I know it wasn't easy. But like all good things, it was well worth it. On February 8th it will be my 6th Year Anniversary of Quitting. I calculate it by the day that Anna Nicole Smith died. She died in West Hollywood, Florida...that's where I grew up! On the Seminole Indian Reservation there at the Hard Rock Cafe...where I first went skinny dipping in my whole life when I was 19 years old. A few weeks later, I discovered...to my SHOCK...that particular little clear water pond was HIGHLY VISIBLE when driving along the Turnpike... illuminated BRIGHTLY by the big billboard sign that was so vivid I could see a beer can in the bottom of the pond driving by at over 55mph...of course I didn't know it AT THE TIME of my indiscretion, but oddly, all this fits together quite neatly in my twisted mind :) I will never forget my quitting anniversary now :-D That more than makes up for the 3 solid weeks of sobbing, sleeping, feeling sorry for myself, and nearly going mad while trying to kick smoking. It's more fun to remember than all that. But it's all that which will keep me from ever taking another puff. Maybe it's a mental thing, or maybe it's smelling cigarettes in my apartment building more now that it's 3º outside (today...that's kind of warm) and the place is all closed up. I can actually taste the smoke in the hallway air (like going into a casino) and that is grossing me out.

----------------

To Miss Arrow...

You may not believe in any Heavenly or Hellish things...but...as some have unfortunately discovered, mocking Satan is like an invitation for him to come to the ball to PROVE to he's an entity that you would not want to reckon with...ever. If you want to mock an entity, then perhaps if you mock God he will knock you on your bottom whilst proving you are completelywrong...as has been done to more people than can be counted...myself included. Try it. Then hold on tight...it's going to be a bumpy ride.

Peace & Love (that's my Hippy Girl coming out of me...which has been happening more and more lately...)

Later...

Re: I think this site is about to die again

I do think that it is possible to maintain a completely open mind where there is a balance between Science and Theology in such a way that a Scientist can believe in various forms of Evolution AND still believe in a Higher Power, Intelligent Design and all that goes with it.

I do/don't believe in Evolution. I believe in the evolution of microbes, bacteria, plant forms, such and such. With that said, I do believe there was a First Man and a First Woman. Science has already given a great deal of evidence that we have all originated from a one man and one woman...both in Nigeria. I believe it points to the LaSonga People (spelling???) Watch "The Journey of Man on Public Television. I think all parts are on YouTube. It's the great DNA project story in detail. Amazing findings. Utterly fascinating documentary.

But where did that one Man and one Woman come from? I do not believe, at all, in the evolution up from apes. I have seen the skeletons of people who have suffered from Rickets and they look like the bones of a cave man...even when they are not. I'd been saying that for YEARS, with no evidence of my hypothesis UNTIL I was at the Smithsonian History Museum and there saw a display of a prehistoric family of three who was perfectly formed in every way. This was, according to the display, due to the fact that this family was found buried in Key Biscayne Park...at the end of Key Biscayne. I KNOW that place. I'd been to the park dozens of times growing up. The fact that there was ample Vitamin D due to the sunshine (after all Florida is The Sunshine State) whereas, in Europe, where the indigenous people of long ago were living in caves, they were deprived of sunshine for the most part. My ex-husband (who heard my hypothesis ad nauseam) was flabbergasted. All I said was, "See. That's what I mean." So as far as I'm concerned, there is still no absolute proof of the "Evolution of Man" as we have been force fed to try to believe. As some do, and some just simply cannot digest. I am one who cannot digest that as being truth.

Peace & Love to all...

Later...

Another thing...I do not believe some Bible "Scholars" who claim that Earth is only some thousand years old...based on math calculations of the Bible. That makes no sense to me whatsoever. And, I really do not believe in the 7 day Creation...based on our timing of what a day is. That day could have been tens of thousands of years EACH...and more likely much, much longer. But timing doesn't dismiss the concept of Intelligent Design at all. Interesting. All of it.

I'm a HUGE fan of Adam & Eve :-) They are my second and third MOST favorite people...EVER :) The MOST Favorite being Robert Smith...

Now, Later...

One should also contemplate that the earth was populated by aliens. It seemed plausible in my late teens/early 20s... I don't let myself be convinced by creation or evolution. The old testament was written by people with little understanding of science and even if humans evolved from apes we are a miracle of God.

Re: I think this site is about to die again

It Is a commen misconception that humans develop from the apes we see today.
Apes and humans evolved from a shared ancestor, both different from us human and ourdays apes.

the most famous first women is name Lucy. she was a Australopithecus afarensis and lived in etiopia around 3,2 millions yaer ago (I think)
However recently a new discovery of an even eralier hominid, the Ardipithecus ramidus has been found, a women named Ardi how also lived in etiopia but around 4,4 millions years ago.

If you want to know about science, dont use the internet. there is so much crap out there. use Peer review high impact journals (Science and Nature are the top)

Suzanne: get some DNA from robert, clone him and you can get your own lillet Robert smith. this will cost you a lot, and have to be done in internaltional sea, as it is illegal

I dont know the detials of the discovery of Lucy, but I can´t really see the problem. If he called her the missing link, that would have been wrong. but she not being the missing link, is not a proof that humans and apes did not have the same ancestor.
If you look a our DNA, which is where mutations, and thereby also evolution happens (very simplified!) you will find that our days human and chimpansies have 99% procent identical/similarities (again very simplified!). For me that is the most convincing evidence of a common anscestor (again there are other "proof")
an essential part of science is the constant questioning of what we think we know. our understanding of the world constantly changes when new discorveries are being found. while small new disvories happens a lot, there are some ground stones on which we bouild other hypotesis to test. ground rules like gravity, the fact that the sun is the rotating center in our solar system, or EVOLUTION. these ground stones have so many "evidences" behind and are therefore very seldom changed. when they do change due to new overwelming evidence a whole new paradigm has to be created.
We dont have a fixed view of the world. in fact we only have an idea about what 5% of the universe is. the 95% rest of it, we have no f...... clue.
What I am trying to say is; science would be willing to through away the theory of evolution, if there were overwhelming evidence against it. But there are NOT!

Re: I think this site is about to die again

Perhaps Human Beings did NOT evolve from apes. Perhaps it was the other way around...that apes are the result of a pair of mutated humans that mated and inbred consistently, making all the characteristics of ape becoming the dominant genes...creating an entirely new species??????

When I was a kid, I was WAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYY into climbing...anything. Mostly trees, but I'd climb anything (then). So that is supposedly a learned skill I inherited from apes? Or did Apes learn that from my original me?

I use to be intrigued by more than I am now. I have since realized that one Scientist's "discovery" is something that another Scientist might successfully debunk later. Like that enormous cache of supposed "fake" Neanderathal tools that were found in Sussex back in the late 1900's during an excavation for a big house that was going to be built. The find was so massive that it was considered to be complete forgeries and most of the tools were destroyed to keep them from mingling with "true" Neanderthal relics, much to the embarrassment of the scientist who brought their discovery to the attention of other archeologists at that time. The man became a laughing stock.

HOWEVER, as Fate would have it....around 2008...Lo & Behold! It was discovered that those tools were genuine...a great many more were found in the same place (as are STILL being uncovered to this day) , to validate the original claims...which, by the way, drove the archeologist who brought them to light into a shamed existence to be known as a "faker". Etc., etc., etc. Accordingly, the Sussex site claims to be the last known settlement of Neanderthals (so far) and that the so-called animalistic dumb Neanderthals were far more sophisticated in their abilities to design tools for specific tasks, etc. and their intelligence is proven to be much, MUCH greater than we were ever taught to believe. So even though apes use tools, apes...well, ape...copy...so isn't it possible that apes learned to use tools by watching humans use them?

Just saying.

Also I do admit it's difficult to sit down and find a comfortable position watching a dvd during two hours and more behind your computer

I REALLY have enough for now, ofcourse I'm silly enough to change my mind

Oh, and Suzanne, if you believe in Adam and Eve and angels, then you're close to God, he's already there patiently waiting for you

Lord
I'm a sinner, please forgive me
In the name of Jesus Christ Amen

A simple prayer, but now you are saved
and you'll see your life will change and you can ask and say and tell and sing to him
Prayers will be heard if HE WANTS

Re: I think this site is about to die again

Hallelujah
; )

Good to hear !
By the way there are more Christians here, like Lucy: thanks you've posted, You gave me a real good feeling after reading it.

So Suzanne,
It was true, he IS close to you...

Besides I only gave an EXAMPLE of a prayer, but nothing is more personal than THIS.
Because I didn't know that about you I decided to put down this very short prayer.

Important is to ask him to forgive you and let him in your life, always in Jesus name and end with Amen
Nobody comes to the Lord than through Jesus
I should have written that,
sorry.

In your case: he already is in your life

To give you an example I talk to him every day:
during a walk, when I am doing things in the house, during a commercial, under the shower, in the car etc.
Sometimes just a question, sometimes a langer talk, whatever
But for a real serious prayer: in church and before I go to sleep
Actually he already knows you inside out from the day you were concieved.

Since only a few years I've started to read the bible.
I was really eager page, after page, afte page. I just kept reading, so 3 times I've read the complete bible, still there are things that God didn't meant us to know, for example: Revelations.

Re: I think this site is about to die again

please people. take you time to read this post.
I am breaking my heart here.

I understand that in religion you can just believe or have faith.
And I understand the argument of ex Adam and Eve being the first humans because the bible say so. what the bible says is true. That is the terms of Christianity. and I can handle that.
But creationism say that they are Scientific. to be that you must follow the terms of science.
can we agree so fare?

the problem is they do not follow the terms of science. to do so they must have a hypothesis (that means question) to test in an objective manner.
(okay, now it gets a bit complex. when you then get your results, you send them in to an independent peer review journals to get reviewed by independent reviewer. then if your exsperiments are well done, you get them published. then all other scientist and the public can see what you have done. Ican see that this seem like a lot of work and belive me it is! )

If creationist ever had tested their hypothesis (eg. that evoultion did not exist) they could send in their article and get publish. If their result were over-whelming they would get the noble prize. if they just published anything in a high impart journal, then the science-world would read it and think about it.

But they never test their hypothesis, in an objective manner! They never follow the rules of science. so how can they claim to be scientific!

what I am trying to say is:
If you believe in God do so because of faith.
If you want to be objective and get "proof" go into science.
Logic, Objective and be able to test your hypothesis are Key Stones in science (there are more).
Use your logic. the argument the creationist have are not logic or objective!
Do not believe that the creationist do science. They do not follow the rules of science!

Please, do not believe in creationism! (you can still believe in God!)
What can I do to convince you or just make you listen ??????
Please, I am Broken hearted here!!!

LOSTGIRLJERUSALEM,
I just want to recommend an amazing book to you:
The Daily Bible in Chronological Order (365 Daily Readings) - by F. LaGard Smith.
It was recommended to me long ago, but I put off reading it for a couple years, thinking I didn’t need to bother with it since I already read the Bible. I was wrong. By presenting God’s story in the order that it actually occurred (and adding side comments of historical information as well as spiritual insights), this book makes God’s unfolding plan VERY CLEAR. I can’t stress that enough.
If you are able to find a copy of it, read it. Believe me---you will be very glad you did.
To my great sadness (and her great joy), that wonderful person who recommended this book to me is now with Jesus. To say that I miss her very much is an understatement.

Miss Arrow If you're brokenhearted; have a talk with God, ask him to forgive you in the name of Jesus and that he will give you wisdom, insight, understanding, common sense and so on.
You'll get your answers if he wants to
at his place and his time.
Your prayers will be heard if you're sincere,
there is no other way
I tried to reach out to you and bough a box with 8 dvd's, but you are not willing to be objective and give it a try

Go and listen to all of them.
There's plenty evidence that condradicts what you are stating here.
Evolution is also a religion

Iam objective too, I only believe the bible, this man came on my path because of my son who really, really wanted me to see this dvd about evolution, "so that I would believe"

Maybe I already told this:
my anwer was not a thousand, not millions of this kinds of information will change my mind:
You know I believe in God

Very true. Which led me, who deeply believes in Science to vehemently object to the entire chemical soup "theory" (which is really merely a vague hypothesis) because the idea of placing a whole lot of specific chemicals in a big pot the applying super intense heat over time hasn't produced a single cell of anything. So it is unproven. Which leaves it still in the realm of hypothesis. Which can be widely speculated upon...as it is...but cannot be "believed" because it is not "yet" (or ever to be) proven to be specifically true.

So, where did everything REALLY come from? All that was here...from the core of the Earth out to everything upon it...had to begin somewhere. And that is where Science and Spirituality vigorously clash. So, rather than force feed unproven hypothesis in either direction, it is better...for me...to continue to see it all as a fantastic magical Spiritual Mystery, rather than simply poo-poo it away as being too silly to believe possible. Oddly, I've experienced more of the magically mysterious in my lifetime to not believe that there is more leaning toward a mystical explanation to creation than not. Although, I do see a compatible marriage between Science AND Spirituality, which is something that most Christians that I've known will accept. Which is no big deal to me because for many years now, I believe what I choose to believe...not what I'm told to believe. So perhaps my version of how someone perceives God and the next person's are somewhat to quite different. That doesn't change my perspective in the least. I am still in the discovery stage...which, I am certain, will continue right up to the end of my life.

actually, I stand to correct myself... "most" Christians that I personally know do not tend to accept anything rather than the Scriptural explanation of Creation...7 days..the entire thing. But, there are some I do know who have reasoned in a way to successfully merge Science with Spirituality and come up with a compatible explanation that is good enough for them to start believing in something that makes sense to them. At any rate, I consider spirituality to be a personal thing, so it doesn't matter one way nor the other...to me...what other people believe about anything.

Peace.

Re: I think this site is about to die again

Interesting thread. I registered specifically to post on this. That said, I want to preface my post with the fact that I am a huge Cure fan and have been for many years (my favorite show was at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena).

1. If you are "atheist", provide positions to support your views rather than spouting Anton LaVey's "The Satanic Bible" which was written in the 60's. I've read it. Pretty good book, and as an agnostic individual, I'd prefer to follow it than the Christian Bible (or the Jewish Bible, the Koran, etc). As a matter of fact, within the book he specifically mentions that neither God nor Satan exist, and his book is meant as an anti-religious book. The Satanist religious zealots took the parts they wanted (while ignoring other parts) and pushed forward with the "Satanic" religion we see today. That said, it's a bunch of crap written by a guy that found followers, nothing more.

2. To my last sentence above, many people believe the Christian (and Jewish) bible are the same, only written far, far before. In other words, the Christian bible (and religion) is no more valid than the Satanic Bible. There is no proof that what is said in these scriptures (Christian, Satanic or otherwise) are accurate and exist.

3. Science - This is hard to deny. Science has disproved most of what scriptures of various religions have stated. This is incontrovertible truth. There is not evidence to say that what science has found is inaccurate.

4. I am agnostic. I believe there is a higher power, however I don't think we have any evidence (or even the power to comprehend it) to prove that one god is the defacto higher power.

5. I think people should be able to discuss their religious beliefs on a forum such as this (in the general discussion area) if it does not violate the TOS of said forum. Offer counterpoints and arguments, but do not bash each other for point of view. This will lead nowhere. If you wish to post about your religion, please be ready to have a thick skin, as people with opposing views will likely try to dispute yours. We should all behave as adults and (if we wish, there is no reason you have to post in a thread you don't agree with) discuss the issue at topic with measured responses instead of insults.

Whew. Sorry that had to be my first post. By the way, other than the SA dates, is the Cure planning to tour other continents shortly after?

I agree with you on many terms and see you have found where the satanic lines came from. I think you are totally right, in that I should keep to my own belief instead of spouting Anton LaVey's "The Satanic Bible". I kind of did that in half frustration/half provocation.

I would probably regard my self as a spiritual Atheist. I don't believe in a higher intelligent power. but I don´t dismiss the existence of metaphysical "things". But I am constant aware, that the spiritual side of me is founded on non-testeable BELIEVES and NOT SCIENCE, and I think that is a really important point.
We don´t no squad about the universe, quantum mechanics etc. maybe someday science will be able to explain things we today consider as supernatural, maybe it will not. I don´t think we are able to comprehend the "universal truth" (if you can call it that). Our brain is develop to exist in a 4D (remember time) world, and we all ready consider the universe to have many more dimensions.

For my there is a huge cliff between being religious and being slightly spiritual. for me being religious means you believe in a supernatural higher INTELLIGENT "person" aka God.

I think at the moment this thread has an okay tone :-) that makes my happy :-)

Re: I think this site is about to die again

ahhh..."religion"...religion is an entirely different subject. Religion is the thorniest or all issues. Wars have been waged, and continue to wage because of religion.

The last time I checked, there are approximately 41,000 DIFFERENT Christian denominations. 41,000!!! So, which one would I fit into? I gave up looking. I'm not a "religious" person. I am highly spiritual though, so it has made me a life-long "Seeker". I was raised Catholic, so very much of how I relate to God is tightly still tied to my my inner child and my inner child remains Catholic-ish.

Where religion is concerned, I figure if it takes 41,000 DIFFERENT Christian denominations to decide what to believe, then I should all go back to square one and start over trying to figure it out all over again. That's where I'm headed. In my research for "The Truth", I've been led to look deeper for the beginning. And that took me back to: Catholic.

But, although I was raised and understand Roman Catholic, that isn't the Catholic I'm going to look at more closely. I'm going to investigate to the very beginning, before the Roman Catholic Church was created...to the Orthodox Catholic Church...because I really want to know. I've allowed my persistent Inner Child to pull me around by her insistent hand this long...so I'm letting her tug me over to see what that is all about. I wish there was a church near me. But there is not. So I'll have to go back to book learning yet again and see what I gain from it. It's slow going, but it feels like it is the end of the long and winding road...so it's going to be interesting to discover what I find there.

Peace...and love :-x

Back in the day, when the invisimods were here, multilingualism was very frowned upon and people posting in another language also had to put the English translation. It all stemmed from something very silly and caused a lot of friction.
