Oh there is also a book documenting all of the MTV Unplugged Performances... there is a good section on The Cure's performance, about 3 or 4 pages long with some great photos, set-list and such things :)

I had the unplugged session on VHS...taped it off MTV...and now the tape has gone mouldy and is unwatchable. I think Robert should release EVERYTHING on dvd...kind of like how he is releasing the deluxe editions.

Re: The MTV Unplugged 1991 gig

I have MTV unplugged downloaded somewhere. But I believe it hasn't got all of the songs on it: let's go to bed / The walk / Just like heaven / Caterpillar / The Blood / Boy's don't cry.

I love Munich 1984 too, by the way!!

Re: The MTV Unplugged 1991 gig

mtv dont broadcasted:

lullaby
a letter to elise (its on play out vhs)
if only tonight we could sleep (also on play out)

...if only tonight was broadcasted but not the full version...just as a credits-song in black and white at the end of the unplugged show...

Yep, true! I've got that one! Too bad that they didn't broadcasted full version. Is it full version on audio if you know?

Lyrics for "A Letter To Elise (MTV Unplugged 1991 Version)"?

Does anybody have the lyrics for "A Letter To Elise (MTV Unplugged 1991 Version)"? It's different than the one on the albums and I actually like the lyrics better in it but I can't make them all out in the performance. Was also wondering if anyone knew where I could get that version of it.

Thanks! :)

Re: The MTV Unplugged 1991 gig

I do hope for a DVD release of this show, but, all the songs' rights must be cleared before then.

And what other live versions of "The Walk" feature kazoos and steel drums in them?

Okay, well since no one else did it, I tried to piece it all out. It doesn't seem 100% accurate, especially 'cause at one part Robert kind of mumbles, lol, but it's not too bad.

Welcome to anyone correcting any mistakes I've made. It's a good start.

Oh Elise it doesn't matter what you say,
You know I stay here every yesterday
Like people acting out the same way we act out.
Every way to smile & forget,
And make believe we never needed any more than this,
Anymore than this.

Oh Elise it doesn't matter what you do,
You know I'll never really get inside of you
To make your eyes catch fire the way they should.
The way your blue could pull me in,
Oh if they only would, if they only would.
At least I'd lose some sense of sensing something else that hides away.
For me & you there's worlds to part with
Aching looks & breaking hearts
And all the smiles your hands can take,
And I can take as much as you can throw,
And then throw it all away,
Oh I'll throw it all away.
Like throwing faces at the sky,
Like throwing arms round yesterday
You stood & stared
Like stolen from the hue.
And the way I stared it seemed I looked right out of you.
And even the way I stand is standing away from you.
Elise, believe me, take me away from this.
Secretly we'll slip to all our promises.
Away from it all in the cover of a night again.
And we'll watch the years fall,
And we'll dream it all back to the tip.

So Elise it doesn't matter what you say,
You know I stay here every yesterday
Like people acting out the same way we act out.
Every way to smile & forget,
And make believe we never needed any more than this,
Any more than this.

As fast as I lift you up,
Falls away through clutching hands.
As fast as I pick it up,
Runs away like falling sand.
But there's nothing else I can really do,
There's nothing else I can really do,
There's nothing else I can really do at all.

Out of the woods is just a documentary with no original cure music on it. There's a clip on Youtube, actually i think someone posted the whole thing. It's a bunch of people from the industry (including S.Severin) talking about the cure. I got it as a gift and was disappointed- see it on Youtube and decide for yourself.

^^

I think that documentary gives a good insight into the band's history through the eyes of their contempories/peers/critics..
One person of particular interest is Paul Morley who reviewed their albums from the very beginning..
