B-sides you'd like to see played live..

If the reason, theoretically, for The Cure's dry spell of no real news was because, theoretically, they're busy rehearsing a set that does away with over played hits and unearthed rarely played/b-side songs for their next tour..
What. theoretically of course, would we like to hear??

Great question!

I agree with Cats - those are some lovely songs - I'd also add Halo and Coming Up as well. Sinking is probably my favorite song because of the amazing bass line but it's not an official B-side, although it wasn't a single either. Harold and Joe would be really fun as well. I'd be bouncing up and down for that one. :)

Hey Cats! <3 That song always makes me so happy! I think I'll play it repeatedly today. :)

Re: B-sides you'd like to see played live..

I guess as I'm the person reaponsible for the thread, I should put my two cents worth in..

A Pink Dream (WMS)
It Used To Be Me (WMS)
The Big Hand (Wish - Nice one Cats!)
This Morning (Self Titled)
Truth, Goodness and Beauty (Self Titled)
Watching Me Fall (Bloodflowers)
Last Day of Summer (Bloodflowers)
39 (Bloodflowers)
Sinking (THOTD)
Lament (Japanese Whispers)
To Wish Impossible Things (Wish)
Without You (4:13 Dream)
A Japanese Dream (Instrumental version. Kiss Me x3)
Fear of Ghosts (Disintegration)
New Day (THOTD)

I know I've gone out of album order on some of them but they would have to be played in their correct chronological album order..

I think it would be something that would make them vital again, in the past decade of their live shows they seem to be putting off death by repitition in the content of their setlists..

for me, b sides and the older material is better than the newer stuff. Maybe I'm stuck in my ways!! My favourite songs are off JTD and disc 3 is the most-played ;-)

um, i like a lot of songs off kiss me kiss me. it'a a tough sounding bunch of songs but keep the sound and feel there that remind me of the cure. i like the longer intros to the songs too, adds a bit of mystery to them before he comes in singing. this album has edge to it

But then, I'd also love to hear Chain of Flowers, A Foolish Arrangement, This Twilight Garden, Play, and...
I could probably go on for a long time, but these are the main ones. Especially 2 Late and This Twilight Garden. When I listen to them, it's like I'm in an altogether different world. A world with more magic, more substance, more emotion than this one could ever have...

I don't think Porl's left. There were the rumours on CoF but that rumour also included that Roger was coming back; Roger has come out and said this isn't true. I've also heard that there may have been some personal things for Porl (family??) and he needed a short hiatus

My understanding was that the rumour was confirmed and it was unclear as to how long he would be away for or where things stood in terms of being welcomed back..

Was unaware that it could be a personal issue.. interesting..

It was Roger who threw the spanner in the works about his own status in the group in a recent BBC radio interview.. admitting on a twitter thread that it had been rather 'ambiguous' of him to throw a 'no comment' into the mix at a time of 'uncertainty' surrounding the group..

Confirmed by whom I'd like to know? I think it's pretty shitty, honestly, that people who are NOT affiliated with the band in any official capacity, including former members and people who operate "fan" sites, would be acting as spokepersons for the band and spreading rumors. They have something to gain, even if it's only to make themselves feel important to have people turning to them for Cure "news" when official releases have been so sparse. At a minimum, it's irresponsible and disrespectful, which in my opinion underscores these people's LACK of affiliation with the band.

I don't believe for a second that Porl's left. I think that's complete bullshit coming from someone who has demonstrated in the past that he has an axe to grind with Porl, who's one of the coolest people I've ever met. Bearing that in mind - I REALLY don't believe that RUMOR and it rather irritates me that it's even being repeated here as though it were fact.

Well, he has sold off a fairly large chunk of his touring guitar collection.. That could be a bit of a hint..
Perry did exactly the same when he left..

I've mentioned this before.. when things like remasters and solo collaborations take place, this does put alot of down time on the rest of the group, it's not like they all stand over RSX's shoulder watching him sort out what track order he's going to put the next remaster in..
Of course one would have to 'leave' the group if they were to go on vacation or take care of a family matter or whatever the case..
The site in question has been in operation for a good 15 years now and as I've also mentioned to someone else.. often official news has gone there first before it has come here.. The person who runs the site is well respected because of his 'rapport' with the group, which he in turn respects, after a few initial hiccups of course..
If any of the above comment has been directed at me.. well yes, I have been following the site very closely since it started, so have a vague idea what goes on 'behind the scenes too..

Not trying to blow my own trumpet, but if it weren't for the likes of me, everyone would be talking complete and utter bollocks NOT related to the band in any way, shape or form.. it would be back to "I shag Robert's mum" "Well I shag your mum" "Well You're a cloth - eared bint!!" etc..

Sorry fattyowls, I honestly didn't mean to get snarky with you. My issue isn't with you.

I just really object to people looking for publicity by spreading rumors and/or extrapolating conclusions about the band (or an individual band member in this case) from little snippets of info that may have been taken entirely out of context. When the band has something to say, they will speak for themselves.

And Porl selling some guitars - well maybe like the rest of us he's just run out of space in his garage. It's not like he doesn't have a TON of them and isn't always getting new and cooler ones. That little bit of information could mean all sorts of things that have nothing to do with him leaving the band.

Re: B-sides you'd like to see played live..

As per the guitars: there were SEVEN sold, not a "large chunk of his touring collection." Someone who purchased a guitar called the shop and reported back to CoF that the store told them:

a) the guitars being sold were just old freebies and test guitars from Schecter to Porl.

b) the guitars weren't even being sold by Porl, but by a Cure roadie who was charged with making more space.

One of Robert's guitars was also allegedly sold at the same shop.

Porl is also in the new 2010 Schecter catalogue as a Cure member.

While your info is correct, a couple of his vintage guitars were included too..

Again, I stress, and it also states this in CoF..
There is NO official indication as yet how permenant this hiatus (sounds a little better than leaving/left) is..
I've read this post you're referring to and it clearly states that emails have been traded as to the status of Porl's relationship within the group without, of course divulging the actual information..

At the end of the day, it really doesn't matter who is in the group, it's up to them..

Re: B-sides you'd like to see played live..

Where? All of the ones listed by the guitar shop, and by Craig, were new Schecters. Someone posting on CoF claimed that a vintage guitar would be up there, but it hasn't turned up for sale on that site at all. Even if it had, Porl probably has hundreds of guitars, and a report of a roadie unloading seven of them doesn't mean very much in that light.

As far as I'm concerned, unless the band themselves confirms this, it's a baseless rumor. CoF is not an official site, they are not the band's spokespeople, and IMHO, if they really respected the band, they'd respect their privacy. I've never seen or heard anyone in the band give a public endorsement of CoF. Have you? The only thing I've ever heard is that Robert was livid with them when they chose to divulge information on Perry and Roger's dismissal.

So someone sent craig an email. So? He's not the band's agent. He's not an official source, and there's nothing that says that the emails are from a credible source either.

There are diverging opinions on CoF, as you might find by looking around here. Not everyone has to respect or like them. It's a fan site and not everyone appreciates or likes every fan site. That's how it goes. It's not worth fighting about, and we all have a right to our opinion. You trust CoF and others do too; I don't trust or like CoF; others share that opinion too. It's that simple.

Re: B-sides you'd like to see played live..

Hi, new to the forum. Been a cure fan since before pubes. I would lose my mind if I was to witness Harold and Joe live, and probably "bounce" as LA Lovecat stated. "A foolish arrangement", and of course "A pink dream." I'm pretty sure I would wiggle myself unconscious if I could witness these gems live. Glad to be here!

Re: B-sides you'd like to see played live..

Hehe too many.
If I could only choose three I think that I would go for:

This Twilight Garden, Chain of Flowers and The Exploding Boy.

If I could add three more then it would be Fear of Ghosts, Play and Burn

I wish they would have played more of "4:13 Dream" in 2008. I'd really like to see "The Scream" & "Switch".
