My favorite Cure album is Wild Mood Swings

It seems there are quite a few Cure fans who dont like it but I for the life of me cant understand why. I feel that most people who dont like it are stuck on the "dark cure" stuff and just wont accept anything else. Anyway with songs as fantastic as Want, Jupiter Crash, Mint Car, Strange Attraction and Round and Round I think its a pretty damn goood record.

This is the WMS appreciation thread I've been waiting for :)

I must say I LOVE the dark stuff but I still have plenty of love for the lighter stuff too. WMS has some great songs, This is a Lie, Mint Car, Jupiter Crash being some of my favourites.

Although I wouldn't say it's my favourite album but I still think it has some great songs on it and agree with you that it doesn't get as much love as it deserves!

Very true, it is a fantastic record. I would expect Cure fans to dig it but there is a group of them out there that like to trash it, Ive never understood it since my Cure fanhood was born in 1997. My least favorite would have to be the 2004 release: The Cure.

My dad seems to have a hate for this record and therefore will not buy it for me, but from the few songs I've heard from it, Strange Attractions, Mint Car and is Wrong Number on that record? I like it :D I'm veri much into 'dark' Cure stuff and dark punk music but sometimes you have to let some happiness in; with a vanilla smiles and a strawberri kiss ;)

Wild Mood Swings is wonderful :) is a good disc of The Cure.. and well...all of The Cure is very beautiful!

I've always like Wild Mood Swings. Yes, I do prefer the earlier, darker albums, but there is, for me, a Cure album for every mood, and WMS is a happy-mood Cure album :-)

I love WMS!!! I think there exists a contigent of Cure fans who think the happier, lighter songs are not truly Cure songs....but I love it! I like the dark stuff too! I love that the Cure has a song for almost any mood I'm in and I am quite moody so that's an accomplisment!

For me, all Cure songs are 'Cure' songs, there's not one that I dislike. Except for Just Say Yes... That's the attraction of the Cure for me, that whether you're feeling sad, lonely or crazily happy, there's an album or a song or two to fit that mood! :-)

I can't really comment on Wild Mood Swings or any other studio album of The Cure's because I've only got Staring at the Sea and Galore. I wish I had more CDs. Which ones do you think I should get?

Cats, I guess I'm sort of on the same wavelength as you here. What I'll say on this subject is that if I'm really happy, listening to The Cure will just make me even more happier [especially if it's one of these: The Lovecats, Lovesong, Charlotte Sometimes, Primary]. If I'm down, then no matter what I listen to, whether it's as dark as A Forest or Other Voices or like the songs I mentioned before, it's bound to cheer me up. Like once when I went to my auntie's house one day and I was in a mood I just borrowed my uncle's phone and went on Youtube and listened to one of the few songs by The Cure I know that aren't singles: Disintegration. And I was jumping around the room [yeah, that's me dancing to music, I'm sorry to say - not a good dancer], smiling as soon as I put it on!

I actually uh, don't mean to disagree but I couldn't let this go without saying that The Perfect Boy has depth. On the one hand, it's like he's giving advice to a young girl, and how she will be let down after falling in love but one day will find that "perfect boy" when she stops with her expectations and makes some realizations...this imperfect person turns out to be the one after all. : )

Not to worry! We all have our opinions, it shows we're not all robots :-) I think the newer music is also down to the producing as much as the actual lyrics. Things seemed more deeply heartfelt back in the old days :-)

Very much so.. Even though Bloodflowers was essentially the last album with Fiction, WMS seemed to be the last album which had real substance and depth. You only need to listen to the B-sides of WMS (and there were many of them, the most, in fact, for one album) to fully appreciate how really diverse it was.

Not just in terms of lyrics either but with instrumentation.. Live strings/horns etc.. as well as harmonising over the top of the main lyrics which is what I liked most about Robert's style of singing. Give me more of that any day

I've seen instumental demos floating around of all the tracks.. I hope that's not all the remaster edition has to offer..

I agree Wild Mood Swings was the last record they put out that feels like a true Cure album, and its very diverse which is one thing I love about it.

bought it, hated it and put it into the darkest corner... ... until i moved into a new flat and found it again... after 1x listening i loved it, in fact it´s my favourite since quite some time, but it could also be a "case" of growing older...

Its a bit of a messy album like.
Having said that there's some superb songs on it.
Numb for example is one of the best the band ever written then there's Want, Treasure & Bare.
Overall its a decent album but it wont even make top 5 CURE albums imo.

I am going to get absolutely crucified for saying this, but I actually like WMS *more* than Disintegration, and certainly much more than the last two albums he released. Wild Mood Swings *DOES* have a few stinkers don't get me wrong, but Jupiter Crash and NUMB make up for it, and are two of Robert's best written songs! Trap, Gone and Want are amazing as well. Thumbs up!

Lots of people don't like this album by The Cure(if you think about this album selling),but I don't know why...
I know it is not it is a little bit unlike than the other,but not bad just another!!!Why? I think the reason is the strings and the brass.These things add something else to sound of The Cure.Some song are brilliant:
For example there are some of my favourite song is in this album.Think about the Want,This is a lie,Treasure...:D
Some unfortunately not my favourite,just interesting...
But it is allright!;)
Anyway! I like this album!:D

If I could get the world just to listen to ONE album by ANY band... I would choose Bloodflowers...

The reason for that is because it is both sad and strangely happy and more full of love than any Cure album (I own them all). Personally, I found it to be a romantic masterpiece. It actually changed my life... Or at least change my mind (on many things like faith and love)
