HEY YOU TWO!!! XOXO I REALLY wish I could afford to come back to England to see them again with you both! That would be the best! I actually meant that it would be nice for them to e-mail pre-sale information to their fans for ALL the shows - but I realize this is the RAH thread... so sorry for the confusion!

I SO wish I could come back and see The Cure with you both and spend some more time with you! That was so much fun when we saw Grinderman last year together- and we really missed you at Bestival, Cats!! But it's not always possible to go to every gig... sadly. One of these days, though, all three of us will see The Cure together. Without a doubt. If I wasn't doing APE this weekend I probably could have swung it, but that's really important that I do. And don't worry, I'm assembling special packages of Growlycat SWAG for you both. <3 XOXXOX

Re: "Reflections" @ The Royal Albert Hall

Great news, I 'll check for tickets tomorrow morning and then hopefully I' ll book my tickets from Amsterdam to London.

Normally I was willing to pay 50 or 75 gbp but maybe I could pay up to 100, it's a special occasion after all.
Still I am a student and I don't have that much money to spare.. so yeah it kinda sucks.

I 've never been to RAH, can anyone tell me what's the most value for money option or something like that?
I was wondering if it's worth going from 50 to 75, and more importantly up to 100.

Apart from that for which tickets are you gonna buy?

Dear Robert Smith

Why only one show for us Brits? Two live dates in the UK in the last 5 years. I think you are doing your British fans a bit of a disservice. Remember where it all started.
So come on, add some extra dates in the UK for "Reflections"

I've seen another gig sell out faster (300 capacity but I managed to get one). However, at least that gig had its tickets for the ACTUAL ADVERTISED PRICE! This one, I was there bang on 9am, had my pick of the tickets, but the ones that the site claimed were going to be £25 were actually £50. Couldn't afford it, so I just sat and watched them go. So sad.

Re: "Reflections" @ The Royal Albert Hall

So, I've seen The Cure in the UK, Ireland, France, Spain, Norway, Sweden, Germany, Portugal, Italy and Hong Kong. My friend has also seen them in two other countries. We're on the internet and on the phone first thing this morning, to no success. Web site terrible, phone on hold, sold out by 9.04. I'm a teacher and even had to get a colleague to cover my lesson so I could try.
Meanwhile, dozens of greedy idiots secure their tickets and put them on ebay for 3 times face value.
It's not the money, I could just about afford it, it's the principle. They will not get my money.
But Robert... there are ways and means. I respect that you are not personally responsible for the ticket sales but you could at least make a nod towards the fans? One gig in England. Nothing in Europe to make a second option possible? At the very least, it's not difficult to ensure a system that makes the buyer present i.d. at the gig to get entry to prevent touting.
Back in 92, several of us queued from 3 in the morning to get Rock City tickets. At least we knew that we would be dealt with fairly.
I would rather pay £500 knowing the excess would go to charity than give £300 to some dickhead who robs real fans.
And Robert, if you ever read these forums... we were gutted to miss out on the Trilogy festivals as we couldn't do Europe mid week, we're now going to miss out on this. As another member pointed out, it all began in Britain, please give us a thought every now and then.

Very very very fed up waited on the albert hall web site from 7AM to get tickets. Adding them o basket site crashed when i got back in i was in a queue at 4000 so no tickets. Then before 9:30 on other sites selling fo loads of money. So unfair real fans can't get tickets and people that just want to make money get them to sell on. I gues i am not the only one not geting to see them in london.

I called the RAH days before and they said there was no point in being online or calling before 9 since there will be nothing available, I went online @8:50 and I was the number 1500 in the waiting list, of course couldn't get any tickets, and it makes me so angry to see all those tickets being sell on ebay extremely expensive. If that was the face value I could maybe make and effort and pay for them but I'm not giving my money to this abusive people.

Please Robert one more show in UK at least somewhere in Europe!!

Re: "Reflections" @ The Royal Albert Hall

Valid concerns here about how freely the touts could operate. I am an old fan having first seen The Cure when they supported the Banshees at Malvern Winter Gardens over 30 years ago, and count myself as very very lucky to have got 2 tickets for this gig, seated in the Stalls. So having read the posts here and noticing all the Sold Out messsages less than 5 mins after sale start, I looked at eBay myself (NOT to sell but to see how bad things were.

The corruptness of the system is exemplified if you just look at 8 pairs of tickets sold succesfully on eBay already within 24 hours of going on sale, and all by the same seller 'JimmyKaye'. That's 16 tickets from one person!! - when it was supposedly limited to 4 per person, and us mere mortals had enough problems getting through the web traffic to buy 2 for ourselves! Conspiracy theories anyone?

And if that sounds far fetched, just do the maths on the economics of this. I worked out that those 16 tickets sold just by JimmyKaye would have cost £1778 from face value and including booking fees and postage costs. On eBay they sold for a total of £2945, which leaves £2502 if you allow 15% for eBay and PayPal fees. That's a cool profit of £724 for a day's work, and probably more than enough to give someone in the right place a bit of pocket money.

So... I'm really pleased I managed to get tickets and excited at the prospect of seeing these 3 albums played (my favourites of all), but saddened and angered that touts have been allowed to have a field day with this. Particularly when - as others have noted - there are alternative ticketing approaches to hamper this touting practice

Re: Re: "Reflections" @ The Royal Albert Hall

Touts unfortunately or fortunately for them have got computer programmes that enable them to beat the system of the ticket agencies - they get the tickets using this system.

All bands suffer from this not just The Cure - again and again fans of the bands are left out whilst the touts become millionaires xx

Re: "Reflections" @ The Royal Albert Hall

Or if bands and ticket sellers don't change approaches with online selling, perhaps the balance could be returned if we could all get access to the same programmes these touts are using? I'd heard that this might be another way they beat the system, as FridayL mentions, but where do they get these programmes from - anyone know?

I have also heard - though can't verify the truth in it - of some dodgy collaborative practices between primary and secondary ticket sellers that reinforce this general stitching up of the genuine fan.

And just in case I'd given the wrong impression - I'm not suggesting this is just limited by any means to The Cure tickets. I've experienced this too many times before - it's just that this time I felt the urge to vent!

Re: "Reflections" @ The Royal Albert Hall

Same story here: had 2 tickets in shopping basket, but on checking out the system crashed. Result: no ticktes and me verrryyyyyy frustrated!! I've just had a look at e-Bay and that makes me feel even more frustrated!!
Why don't Albert Hall just issue tickets with the name of the buyer on them, so that only GENUINE people can buy tickets and go to the concert? In plenty of countries ticket sales are regulated like that. They just check your ID on the venue entrance and if your ID and the name on the ticket don't match, you can't get in. Believe me, this system works!
Anyway, in the meantime let's keep our finger crossed and hope that there will be a second (and third hehe) concert in the UK or mainland Europe!!!!!

Re: "Reflections" @ The Royal Albert Hall

I have a few chums/contacts in the concert promotions business: I'm gonna do some brain-picking next time I see one of 'em on why-and-how touts get away with this.

Am I right in thinking that ticket touting is illegal in the UK for football games? if so, why is it not the same for music events?

I was lucky: I got a ticket (but wasn't placed in a queue, which is another thing I can't work out: I got straight onto the RAH's website, first time.) but seeing just how fast MASSIVELY over-priced tickets were going up on 'tout sites' (some of my workmates were trying to get tickets too), I'm not surprised that people here are bloody well seething!!

It's so grossly unfair.

:-(

P.S. Not blaming the band here, by the way, it's touts that are the issue.
