If The Cure were to perform only 10 songs in concert...

Which would you choose?

But wait there is more!

5 of them have to be official singles and the other 5 songs have to be b-sides/rarities

Also you have to cover at least most of The Cure's history too! So like you can't pick all of the singles and b-sides from Disintegration for example.

Okay here is my set list

Fascination Street
Burn
Scared As You
A Night Like This
Charlotte Sometimes
Just One Kiss
A Chain of Flowers
The Caterpillar

Encore:

Boys Don't Cry

Re: If The Cure were to perform only 10 songs in concert...

Way too many pre-requisites for me but I come from generation X and have been a huge fanatic since 1980. If I was to be somehow relocated to a desert somewhere as part of some weird CIA experiment from which there would be no returning and Robert Smith rang me up and said "Ok, this is it, we are performing live, this is the last music you will ever hear, 10 songs, out with it, what's it going to be"?

Faith (which in reality would never happen)
Play for Today
One Hundred Years
The Figurehead
The Upstairs Room
Piggy in the Mirror
La Ment
Throw Your Foot
A Few Hours After This
2 Late

Wow, even with the only limitation being 10 songs, it's just too hard, I'm only up to 1989 for christ sake!!!! But, that would be my list as non comprehensive as it may be.

Good luck trying to get Robert to agree to Charlotte Sometimes, it was always the film clip he hated the most. In all the many many times over the many many years I have seen them perform, it has never been on the set list, neither has Faith, but for good reason. :)

Dressing Up
Secrets
Disintegration
Fascination Street
Doing the Unstuck (not exactly one of my FAVOURITE songs, but I think it was be wonderful to hear live)
Want
A Thousand Hours
The Kiss

Encore:
The Figurehead
From the Edge of the Deep Green Sea

argh that was so hard! I kept changing them around, but I had to stop myself... Only 10?! I couldn't pick which one off Faith I'd like to hear live the most... Just the whole god damn album.

Doing the Unstuck
Sleep When I'm Dead

Encore:

Re: If The Cure were to perform only 10 songs in concert...

Really good question! It took some time to choose and to find the "right" order, but I tried it in my player and it sounds pretty good!

So here it is, my set list in particular order (67 minutes):

1. Out of This World
2. The Hanging Garden
3. Why Can't I Be You? (version from Kiss me Deluxe)
4. This Twilight Garden
5. Fascination Street
6. A Chain of Flowers
7. Fear of Ghosta
8. Burn

Encore:

9. A Forest (both from Lievin 1992)
10. Forever

It was a tie between Charlotte Sometimes and Primary for me.. but I guess I chose it since I like the video of Charlotte Sometimes a lot. But, I like how in you have Just One Kiss on your list. I was going to choose something from JW, but I didn't know if they were considered b-sides or rarities even though they were on JTD Box Set.

nice list! I am surprised you did not pick any of the singles from the KMKMKM album!

it was so hard for me to pick! I kinda wish The Cure would play a 10 song show though. Not like a tour concert but just like a promotional thing or a TV show thing or something.

It's the same for me. In fact the singles are often my least favourite songs from an album. I like more the darker, 6-11 min long songs with guitar solo etc.!

But one the other hand the B-sides are really great and it's difficult to choose only 5!

It's my favourite album but the 4 singles are probably my least favourite songs on the album (not that I don't like them, I just don't like them as much as others). Although out of the singles from KMKMKM, I'd probably pick 'Why Can't I Be You?' Mainly because I have a bootleg of a Cure show at Wembley Stadium from December 1987 and I LOVE the performance of 'Why Can't I Be You?', Robert adds an extra verse too. I can't remember how all of it goes... but I know it starts off with: "Don't you know that it's worth every treasure on earth to be young at heart." Then there's something inbetween there... I can't remember what he says (I haven't listened to it in a while). But the at the end he says: "Fools rush in where wise-men dare to go, but wise-men never fall in love so how are they to know?" ah I love it!! I'm going to go listen to it now :D

That's the version that is on the second disc of the Kiss me Deluxe Edition. I don't like the studio version much, but I love this version. It's the reason why I chose the song (in this live version) for my 10 songs list ; )

Sleep When I'm Dead
Truth Goodness And Beauty (I know this is going to cause a fuss, but this track only appeared on the US release of the album so technically this is still a rarity!)
