Here's an interesting one, Which would you say is preferable to own - Boys Don't Cry or Three Imaginary Boys? I'm in the UK, but BDC is now available here through online retailers. I love Three Imaginary Boys but I don't yet own it and I've become a little torn over which to get. I don't think that any of the tracks which BDC are missing are ones I'd miss much, and even with the Greatest Hits CD, I own nothing which contains Killing An Arab and Jumping on Someone Else's Train. I'm thinking I may get BDC, but I'd love to hear what you guys think. Anybody tried both? Does the experience differ? Do the singles brighten BDC up a little, or does it make it feel like a dumbed down TIB? Quote

Here's an interesting one,

Which would you say is preferable to own - Boys Don't Cry or Three Imaginary Boys?

I'm in the UK, but BDC is now available here through online retailers.

I love Three Imaginary Boys but I don't yet own it and I've become a little torn over which to get. I don't think that any of the tracks which BDC are missing are ones I'd miss much, and even with the Greatest Hits CD, I own nothing which contains Killing An Arab and Jumping on Someone Else's Train.

I'm thinking I may get BDC, but I'd love to hear what you guys think. Anybody tried both? Does the experience differ? Do the singles brighten BDC up a little, or does it make it feel like a dumbed down TIB?

I got myself Boys Don't Cry in the end, as I didn't get much response to this, but I'm pretty glad I did. I think I agree with you... I got myself Boys Don't Cry in the end, as I didn't get much response to this, but I'm pretty glad I did. While it was originally the US version of the album, it was given a CD release here alongside Japanese Whispers.

Get the Three Imaginary Boys Remaster (with bonus disc) and fill in the blanks - best of both worlds. Here's my new version of TIB keeping both Boys Don't Cry and TIB's running orders mostly intact/congruent:

well done mr hook, that's what the reissues are for, making the 'real' albums.
and regarding the initial question, yes, get the reissue, and then maybe bdc on cassette, for the car, and tib on vinyl, for the insert and back sleeve.

I have an emotional attachment to the original (to us in the US) Boys Don't Cry, maybe cos I first really got into it in the early '80s in my late teens...don't really like the other TIB stuff quite as much, (perhaps cos of my BDC attachment?)however, their take on Foxy Lady is a definite preference to the original version...nonserious playful fun. and I do own the reissue and am glad they put BDC songs on there. : ) i'm old-fashioned i guess..

I would have to say Boys Don't Cry is the better album, I got the original in '81 & it was all I ever listened to on the way to school! But, surely you have got to have both albums!

I've got both, but then I get any Cure thing I can get my hands on :-) there's no difference for me, I enjoy them both
