4:13 Dream Lyrics

Anyone else notice how long the lyrics are to each song? Do you prefer shorter or longer words to a song?

Re: 4:13 Dream Lyrics

I don't really think about the amount of words in each song-I like Sirensong a lot, and it's a short little one, but I'm also a sucker for the eleven-minute long 'Watching Me Fall' from Bloodflowers. And who can forget The Same Deep Water As You?
For me, it's the lyrics themselves and the way they're sung. Take Disintegration (the song) for example. It wouldn't be half the song it is today if Robert sung it flatly. But he didn't. He poured all of himself into it, to the extent that you can actually HEAR it all coming apart in his voice...

Re: 4:13 Dream Lyrics

It depends. The long lyrics suit 4:13 Dream, but they would sound completely out of place on an album like Faith.

I just re-read the lyrics on the site from Bloodflowers onwards and they are really really good.

Especially 4:13's lyrics are amazing. They have a lot of depth to them.

Re: 4:13 Dream Lyrics

I have noticed that they're long. But they're cool. When an awesome song has only a few lyrics, like Icing Sugar and All Cats are Grey, i wish there were more, but also think that it would kill the mood if there were more lyrics. I still like the long lyrics in the 4:13 Dream songs.

Re: 4:13 Dream Lyrics

Love these lyrics! I think they kind of make the album x] I truly think they are fantastic... People forget that Robert Smith is really a poet, not just a songwriter... His lyrics are some of the most poetic words I've ever read/heard, he has such talent forming metaphors and small, vague phrases that you can interpret so many ways... like in The Reasons Why:

“We know”
They said
“In letting go
Of fear and dread
And all you know
You’ll lose the need of certainty
And make-believe eternity
To find the true reality
In beautiful infinity… ”

Gorgeous! That's more than song lyrics. That is pure poetry, it could even stand on it's own without music... That's why The Cure is a magnificent band x] because their lyrics are more than just:

Are we an item?
Girl quit playin'
We're just friends,
What are you sayin'
Take another look right in my eyes
My first love, broke my heart for the first time
And now I'm like
Baby, baby, baby noo

*shoots self in head*
