Disintegration Rarities

I can't stop listening to them on the new site! http://www.thecuredisintegration.com/bin/#/listen/

That instrumental demo of The Same Deep Water As You is so moving... it's a bit like a kick in the gut and it gives me chills. I was really feeling that song today for some reason and I even wrote that in the general forum... that I felt like that song today. Not long after that, Robert announced the launch of the new site with that special version of that song, so WOW... I'm really stuck on that song now. I love it so much.

Delirious Night is a real treat as well! What a fun song! It reminds me a bit of The Blood but with beautiful Arabesque flourishes. How wonderful!

I have to also say that the sound quality of the music on the curedisintegration site is STELLAR! I'm just listening to it over and over and over... :) <3 I love The Cure! <3

What do you guys think about the new stuff?????

The site is A-MAZ-ING..

To be blatently honest, I really couldn't give a shit about the sound quality.. Those who have ranted about it (not directed at you, Lovecat) are selfish and unappreciative..
How many groups go to this extent to promote something??

I TOTALLY AGREE!!! This band has knocked themselves out for us. When you look at the quality of the printed materials and artwork and research that goes into those deluxe editions - not to mention all the compiling and tweaking of all the old tapes and such - it takes SO MUCH TIME AND EFFORT. That stuff doesn't just materialize out of thin air, beautifully pulled-together with so many little artistic and personalized details. A lot of love and hard work went into creating all this. It wasn't just slapped together by some ad agency or made to fit a standard record label template. The band, and Robert especially, have done a remarkable job once again, extending their art all the way through its final distribution to us. Looking at their new site or opening up one of their beautifully-printed booklets to read the liner notes fills me with joy and leaves me grinning from ear-to-ear!

I have to again comment on how great this track SOUNDS!!! To fattyowls' point, I'm not saying that the sound quality in the past hasn't been good- not at all. I'm struck by how spectacularly crisp these tracks sound.

I agree, it sounds so good.
I can't wait to get the album. i am half attempted to get it on vinyl and 'burrow' my mates record player just to hear the qaulity on that too...:)

I KNOW!!! There's something so enjoyable about listening to an actual record. I ordered the UK Pressing of the CD and the vinyl as well. I couldn't resist the vinyl version when I started thinking about how gorgeous all the official Cure pressings are - and all their printed materials as well. I'm very curious to hear both formats and I can't wait to hold them in my hands!!! :)

These are all so fantastic! It's such a treat to listen these again and again. I haven't stopped beaming since I started listening to all these tracks last night! I do like listening to them on the Disintegration site just for the charming little phonograph image. :)

Thank you very much FindHer! Especially for the link to download the demo for The Same Deep Water As You! That's my favorite one of all these tracks. It's SO BEAUTIFUL IT BREAKS MY HEART. I love that music so much, but this version is just achingly touching. I think the flanger (guessing) on the bass in this version makes it sound almost like a quivering voice - like when someone's trying to speak while crying. I absolutely love how it sounds here. I can't stop listening to it.

I actually didn't download (save the files) in that first set of links you posted, FindHer, and those URLs are now "forbidden" so I'm very glad I didn't. I'm reluctant to save any files that weren't specifically designated/labeled by the band as being "gifts for download" - but view them more as "gifts for listening".

The second set of links you posted is still working, but I'd feel better about it if there were something on the actual disintegration site that said, "download these songs here" rather than going the backdoor route. I don't want to assume that they're cool with it - and be part of posting the backdoor/download links here on their own site - when that might not be what they intended at all.

I think you're right Bobby. IMHO, it's pretty lame that another Cure "fan" site (not referring to yours) is offering these downloads when the band's site is not. Just because the songs weren't secured there for a few days doesn't mean the band intended for them to be downloaded. I think that if they wanted the songs to be available for download, they'd state that clearly: "download samples here". Robert has been fairly outspoken about where he stands on this issue, so it's just really surprising to me that "fans" would post free downloads of his music that he, himself, is not yet ready to offer. It might be valuable, "exclusive" content at this point, but at a minimum it's disrepectful to the band to release something that they clearly do NOT want to release yet.

The best of all worlds might be to find a way to "lock the back doors" for downloading and probably be very clear about what is available from the band as free samples for download. Then you'd maintain that direct, band-audience relationship without creating opportunities for third parties. Much easier said than done, I'm sure. I just hate for there to be ill feelings and/or awkwardness between the band and the audience about such things. It gets in the way of loving the music.

Noooo nooo I definitely was NOT referring to your site. Those songs being available like that may have been a simple oversight. There are so many details to look at with a launch like this. And they're juggling so many other balls in the air right now with other projects, too. It's impossible for us on the outside to know exactly what happened. The fact that those files are now disabled just makes me feel badly because it seems like "we", the public, may have helped ourselves to something that wasn't freely given in the first place. :(

Don't feel guilty, they should know what they do... they get paid by The Cure to do the right thing (wrong most of the time, but Hey ! I'm just a «customer»). Else they should check with REAL professional if they are not able to do it right.

Regardless of how or why it happened, if the result is that the band has ill feelings about sharing their music with us, free or otherwise, then that's VERY BAD. Finding an unlocked door isn't the same thing as being invited to enter. (Not directing this at you Bobby, just venting my frustration that this stuff would continue to be distributed)

Mmm.. maybe to solve this 'problem' Robert should have made them available for legal download from the get go..
In this day and age, it's virtually impossible to put anything out without it being 'grabbed'.. surely Robert would have taken that into account..
If he (Robert) wasn't happy with the site in question he most certainly have taken the necessary steps to make this known..

There was NO hiccup, they have change back the directory permissions, all like above now are working back as well as the site it self.

So, you can same it for yourself and don't let anyone know about this.

They updated the flash, now it's stream only. So get yourself a recorder... By the way, I listened to Dallas (a full 97.2MB mp3) show in my car on my lunch time, it was nice.

My Disintegration CDs finally shipped so hopefully I'll get them tomorrow!!!! I'm very optimistically excited!!!!

It's going to be a while yet for the vinyl. Amazon estimates June 17th now. Maybe more people ordered vinyl at the last minute and they increased production quantities? That would be a cool trend.

fingers crossed that you get it tomorrow! My vinyl arrived same day as the cd, which I was surprised at as I ordered it pretty much last minute. I need to buy a second copy of the vinyl so I can open one and keep one sealed ;-)

I ordered the IMPORT version - the UK pressing of the CD. Originally it seemed like I was going to receive it later than everyone else who ordered the North American pressing. I received it on June 2nd and have been listening to it almost nonstop. I'm still waiting on the vinyl.

I LOVE all the instrumental demo versions and the live recordings are just sublime. Pirate Ships is really touching, and the alternate instrumental versions of The Same Deep Water As You, Disintegration, Fear Of Ghosts, Babble and Untitled are GORGEOUS. I smile SO BIG listening to all those instrumentals.

I love being able to hear the instruments and not have my mind's focus distracted by the words - nothing against the lyrics or Robert's voice - I just like to have these alternate versions to listen to as well. It's really challenging to not sing along with his vocals - even if it's only in one's mind. Those instrumental tracks are really something extra special for Cure lovers. I love that trippy, Twilight Zone version of Fascination Street! The whole box is just a feast for one's mind and soul! Damn I love The Cure.

And Noheart with that bit of silliness at the beginning is a very special gift. :) THANK YOU ROBERT!!!!

I have now had a chance to give a close listen to the remastered Disintegration and I'm so enjoying the rarities disk so much AND now I have a second Entreat album to enjoy...I have been listening to Entreat at bedtime for years...now there are two versions to choose from.
