Re: 4:13 DreamHmmm that's hard. I would have to go with three of them Underneath the Stars becuase it sounds like there old stuff only one is catchy reminds me of kiss kiss kiss and I like freakshow cause it's a new style for them

Re: 4:13 DreamIn my opinion, the B sides are actually better than the tracks on the album..

Re: 4:13 DreamOf course I fell in love with "Underneath the Stars" immediately...which is expected. I find myself loving "Freakshow", "The Scream", ''Switch", "Sleep When I'm Dead", and "The Real Snow White". However, I love the album as a whole.

Might be time to dust it off and give it another chance.. Don't get me wrong, UTS was epic, but for me the rest fell really short.. Without You should have been on the album.. Expectations may have been too high knowing Porl was back..

He's quite right in saying it's the B sides that define a band's direction more than the material on the actual album.. :) He said in an interview that when he was younger and got singles from his fave groups he'd flip the record over to play the B side first..

Re: 4:13 DreamI think "I Don't Know What's Going On" sounds more like older Cure than "Underneath The Stars" does.

Re: Re: 4:13 Dreamfattyowls wrote: Just adding to the above.. If you have all the singles and obviously the album.. Take the time to burn a CD with this track order and tell me your thoughts.. The original listing seems to be laid down in a very disinterested way, no real flow or meshing of the tracks (Do feel free at any time to tell me I'm talking bollocks, BTW).. but if they're juggled around a bit with some additions and subtractions.. Bare with me.. 1. Underneath the Stars - Great opener, no mistake! 2. The Reasons Why 3. NY Trip 4. The Only One 5. Down Under 6. Without You 7. Sirensong 8. Sleep When I'm Dead 9. All kinds Of Stuff 10. The Perfect Boy 11. The Hungry Ghost 12. It's Over 13. A Boy I Never Knew Now, I know I've probably created a monster and started a fan war as I may have left someone's favourite out.. But there's more of a contrast in tempo and mood.. I could be completely wrong :p Just seems to flow better.. The other thing I forgot to mention before, with 4:13 and the self titled, there is a marked absence of harmonization over the top of Robert's main vocal line.. You can listen to what I'm going on about on Wish, that's the main one, where there's up to five layers of harmonizing vocals that Robert sings himself over his own main vocal line.. This isn't easy to do.. The vocal tracks on 4:13 and self titled are completely stripped back, which isn't necessarily a bad thing.. but does make a difference to the overall connection to the song.. One thing I absoulutely adore about most of the previous albums is the fact you seem to find more and more in songs after each listen.. tracks that are sometimes subliminal in the mix add another dimension to the song, you barely notice they're there, but the song wouldn't be the same without them.. All this reflection is making me look forward to the next project even more!

Re: Re: 4:13 Dreamfattyowls wrote: I adore Without You! Especially his little whisper at the end... It was the first CD single I bought off of the new album, I fell in love with The Perfect Boy and Without You... Two brilliant songs in my opinion :) I also liked This. Here and Now... even though everyone seems to hate it x] and Hungry Ghost and Reasons Why... and also of course UTS :P

Re: 4:13 DreamThe first song I heard from the album was the Perfect Boy. At a concert. Unfortunately I didn't pay enough attention to it. Later my dad played me Underneath the Stars and told me to guess which song it was. (I originally thought it was some totally mixed up mix of A Letter to Elise) But then he told showed me what it was and I fell in love with it. Then my dad played me the Perfect Boy again but I didn't remember having heard it and I loved that one too. Then my dad bought the album and I liked everything except Switch and It's Over. Freakshow was borderline. The Reasons Why and The Hungry Ghost were ok and I felt like they were really similar for some reason. Like they belong together. Oh I'd also heard the Only One and I liked it- I think that was played at the concert as well. I have to check. I loved Sirensong. Sleep When I'm Dead was cool. This. Here and Now. With You was in second place after Underneath the Stars. I loved loved loved it but couldn't get myself to say that I liked it more than Underneath the Stars. This all happened around Christmas 2008 but by the following summer I loved every track. Including the ones I didn't even bother listening to before. I wasn't an experienced Cure fan then. I really started liking them at that concert I went to. I only knew about 5 songs that they played and I feel ashamed. So I think I see the whole album differently than the lucky ducks who became fans in the early eighties or were at least alive then. 4:13 Dream is my favorite of the 13 albums.

Re: Re: 4:13 Dreamwarcatcure wrote: It's good to have a different perspective.. Us old farts (:p) always have high expectations it seems as we've heard so much before.. I started listening in '96 just before Wild Mood Swings was released and I remember thinking "This is shit, they've done so much better!" The only other abums I had at the time was Standing On A Beach (singles compilation), Mixed Up (remix compilation) and Disintegration. But once I went and bought the rest of the back catalogue and listened to the history of the group, WMS suddenly found it's place within that history! It's now one of my all time favourites!! So, who knows, maybe history needs to do it's thing like with a bottle of fine wine.. :p

I wish i'd know the Cure longer than I have and always wonder how i'd see the music if I'd grown up with them-- hearing the music as it came out rather than all out of order.
