I have a theory..

Of course we'd like a new album, but I have another theory for the marked silence of the group..

Now that the dust has settled on the Disintegration remaster, I feel the group's (Robert's) next move is to push out the next installment of Mixed Up ie: finding people to put a different spin on tracks that weren't covered in the first batch..
This is no easy task. They (he) has to listen back through masters of each track to hear if there's potential in any of them and even wether they may have to go back and re- record some parts..

I'm getting excited just at the prospect! Who's with me?!

Re: I have a theory..

I'm not that excited by that personally. I didn't buy hypnagogic states either and I don't have Mixed Up , just the Never enough single with Harold and Joe.

I'd be more interested in them digging up old unfinished tracks and making those work. And hell why not even try to finish them with the band members of that time. Time heals all wounds and all Cure's are great.

But if inspiration is not lacking I'd love to hear a new album. If 4:13 and B-sides is anything to go by the possible Dark album will blow fans of their feet.

Admittedly - Mixed Up was a very brave move by Robert at that time. Yes some of those mixes sound a little corny now but some of them are truly epic.. A Forest and Facination St spring to mind.. Some of the people involved in that have since moved on to have great careers..
I truly do believe as well that they started the whole remix boom that happened at that time.. all of a sudden EVERYBODY was remixing their own tracks after that was released..
Robert mentioned in an interview some time ago that the whole group likes the sometimes 'dancier' moments they get into sometimes and that's obvious since almost every b side to their singles includes a remix of some way, shape or form.. It just seems like another niche for this group that really does cover a broad spectrum of musical styles..
Technology has come a long way since the early 90's, we could be in for a big surprise!!

Re: I have a theory..

Yeah... I really like some of the songs on Mixed Up like A Forest and Fascination Street, but I NEVER listen to it. It doesn't really appeal to me, and I'd rather get new music or remastered Wish or new Show than Mixed Up 2... Of course I'll get it (*head on desk* I'm wayy too dedicated...) But I'm not overly thrilled about it :P Ah well, any news is good news hopefully!

Mmm.. the main thing I liked about projects like Mixed Up and Acoustic Hits was it breathed new life into old songs you'd heard over and over again..
Most of them on Mixed Up and B sides to various singles were just extended mixes to the original track, they just went back into the mix and brought forward any instrument line that was otherwise buried originally to put a different spin on the song.. A great example of this is Wish's 'High'. On the B side (higher mix) they pull a really quiet synth line right out to the front of the mix and it sounds Awesome!!

Re: I have a theory..

not really excited about mixed up being expanded, i thought at the time it was a cynical and half arsed way of getting more cash out of my stupid obsession with owning as much cure vinyl as i could, the cracks began to appear when i put all my pictures of you vinyl in a pile on day and noticed the b-sides were entreat..
but i will buy it, and i'll try to convince my wife that it's worth listening to, until she 'understands', and i'll re-compile the tracks into an album i can actually listen to, then i'll file it away and wait for the deluxe wish, and orange, and 4:13 mare, and probably paris and show, and my patience will be stretched again, and wild mood swings will arrive and i'll just keep praying that they've got enough bloodflowers material lying around to give me something i can actually look forward to..
and i wonder if they'll be allowed to expand the geffen stuff?

(i think maybe wish is before mixed? can't remember tracklisting, don't own a cd of it, stopped playing it very soon after purchase, even sold on the singles)
