Pornography re-discovered

Haven't put this album in my car stereo for a very long time. <br />I'm just amazed at how good a record this is. I really love the voice effect on 'A strange day' , the minimalistic drumming fits perfectly. The Hanging garden is a great single.<br />'Cold' just sounds like they have written it yesterday and would love them to make another experimental song like. This album surely can stand the test of time."Pornography".

Re: Pornography re-discovered

I agree. Pornography as an album was way ahead of its time..

Re: Pornography re-discovered

Pornography was the second Cure album I bought. I loved it then and love it now. It is truly amazing. When I first bought it and was listening to it fanatically I found myself writing the lyrics on the sides of my notes and things at school. I had to turn in one of the things and when handing them back the teacher asked if I had written that and how amazing it was!

Re: Pornography re-discovered

Sorry for the chaotic opener of this topic , I screwed up and had to leave so I couldn't edit anymore.

My before last sentence should be : would love them to make another experimental song like "Pornography".
The build up is amazing.

Same here. I don't know what it is that makes me love this album so much, maybe the lyrics or the whole atmosphere it creates. I'm a rather positive/optimistic kind of person but I love those songs. "Siamese Twins" and "Strange Day" are among my favourite songs of all time.

Re: Pornography re-discovered

Pornography is just a masterpiece in each category. I don't mean it's only because of dark, gothic mood but it has so amazing music line, very universal meaning words that can be fit in every period of time, but I can say that not to every person! :) In the '80 that music and words were such unique, experimental and metaphorical that even now Robert Smith don't know what he meant by these lyrics. It was hardly influenced (I think) by his experience with drugs, but this is not I want to write. I think that The Cure did the best thing to music when they created Pornography, and it will be always the best rock album in all over the world.

Re: Pornography re-discovered

One of my all time favorites & my first Cure album, when I was 15, way back in 1982. I still get goosebumps when I listen to it! I adore Siamese Twins, Strange Day, Figurehead & Short Term Effect. Robert's voice is so pure & emotional & he sings every word like he means it! I had never heard anything so beautiful & unique before. The first time I listened to it I was in love! Only Robert could come up with the lyrics, freshly squashed fly!

Re: Pornography re-discovered

Love Pornography (wait that doesn't sound right hmm). My theory on why it's so great and so many people's favorite is that the rich, detuned synth sound they use creates such a mysterious, dark ambience, e.g. the opening of A Strange Day. You just know something amazing is about to happen--and it does.
