the worst song & record

what is - in your opinion - the worst song of the cure? and the worst record? it's true, that it isn't very easy to say it, but i think, it is possible.

Worst Song-Just Say Yes
Worst record-I like all the records!
Worst album-4.13 Dream, purely because it's my least favourite!

I agree with both of those. Just Say Yes is just awful, and although I listened to 4:13 a fair bit when it was released, I've not listened to it in ages, but I have the others, even WMS! ;-)

I don't know... It's a tie between WMS and 4:13.

And the worst song is probably Club America. I HATE that song with a fiery passion.

Re: the worst song & record

People are still toying with that 'worst and best' game?

Just because your parents and your social environment gave you that, doesn't mean you can continue the process.

There is no such thing as good and bad when it comes to a creation that was made with love and care. It just simply is what it is. If it isn't being what you want it to be, than that's your problem.

No offense, but a really stupid topic.

Every cure album, is great, for different reasons. Some are more appropriate to certain feelings, hence why disintegration is such a popular one, as more people relate.

Though, the riffs on disintegration are amazing, that is true, but I think wild mood swings is severely underrated. It's the atmosphere of it. That runaway motion sickness type happy where your sort of coming down, or up from a previous experience. It's like your running down a hill, away from everyone, crying as you run and laugh with your eyes closed, knowing you'll reach the bottom and eventually have to deal with it, but for that short moment, your in limbo between happiness and regret.

all that said, the 13th, club america, just say yes, and freakshow are terrible, and their version of purple haze, nope.
personally i put 4:13 far above 'the cure', but probably just because i play it more..

wild mood swings is least favourite album, by miles, light years even.

Re: the worst song & record

It's difficult, because I realize that I start to like songs that I didnt hear before. Some it depends on my mood, but I must confess that I don't here 'The Cure' album. I like just a few songs but I prefer another albums.

Re: the worst song & record

I like "Just Say Yes" but the version where Saffron or whatever her name is isn't screeching over Robert. I agree that WMS is underrated. If I had to pick a least favorite it would be The Top for album and Hello, I Love You for song.

And, of course, it is what it is. That's what art is about. But we can still have opinions. Because of our unique personal life experiences, we all see things in a different way. We both may look at a piece of artwork or listen to a song and our interpretations could be totally different or it may make us feel in different ways. I think that the original poster was asking for least favorites because they know this--not to say the Cure has "bad" albums. Each album will mean something different to us all. I think the poster wanted to just see how others felt about it--not to label good or bad.

Re: the worst song & record

Gonna have to agree with most about WMS. It is definitely underrated and overlooked. Its hard for me to say an entire album that I dislike.. mostly just songs here and there. I might dare say I dislike 4:13 the most because I feel CHEATED because the sister album STILL hasnt come out! I lost the CD ages ago and not once have I missed it enough to want to buy it again.
Least fav songs...hmm..
1. Foxy Lady off 3IB
2. The Snakepit off KM,KM,KM
3. Just Say Yes (WORST!!!)

I always skip over Closedown on my iPod. It just doesn't match up to or resemble their other stuff.

Re: the worst song & record

Any musician who has taken the time to do something creative usually finds a bit of trouble picking their favorite piece.

To in-accurately quote my fallen idol, Peter Steele, "Having creative works is like having children. I can't decide which one I love the most... They are all my ugly, mutated children!"

I've been busting my ass writing lyrics for a music project, and I love every piece of work I spill my brain, blood, and guts out for just about as much as the next! Picking favorites is hard when it comes to creative works, but I guess we all have to do it sometimes (picking practice set lists are hard for me)...

But I'm gonna refuse to answer the question of "which is the worst Cure album" because I don't want to speak negatively about Robert Smith's children (nothing negative would come to mind). I love them as the children of my own!

Re: the worst song & record

Mmm.. Picking worst Cure songs/albums is like picking favorite children.. :p
My opinion is there are no real worst songs/albums.. some just stand out more than others depending on several factors at the time of listen..
For example.. Bloodflowers is not an album that stands out for me, it's not something I regularly listen to. But if I do decide to stick it on I enjoy the tracks that mean something to me.. It's the same with all albums, I would think..
But just for urguement's sake.. If I HAD to choose a worst song I would have to go with Sugar Girl..
I have always loved the lyrics and had not heard the melody of the song until JTD came out.. I don't honestly know what I was expecting, but I don't think it was what can be heard.. :p

Re: the worst song & record

I can't comment on any albums as I don't have any. There are very few songs I've heard of that I don't particularly like. I'm not saying they're awful. They're not in my opinion, but I just don't like them as much as the other songs on the CDs Staring at the Sea and Galore:
1. The Walk [Staring at the Sea]
2. The Caterpillar [Staring at the Sea]
3. Close To Me [Staring at the Sea, Galore [there's a remix of it on Galore. I prefer the original version on Staring at the Sea, even though it isn't one of my faves].
4. Catch [Galore]
5. Lullaby [Galore]
6. The 13th [Galore]
And that's it for my worst songs list.
E.J.O.
