Cure albums on Vinyl

I'm looking to see if anyone here is knowledgeable about past Cure albums on vinyl. Which pressings are good, which are to be avoided. Right now my Cure on vinyl collection consists of US Sire/Elektra/Warner Bros. pressings of Japanese Whispers, HOTD and Standing on a Beach, a Columbia House pressed Kiss Me x3 that needs to be replaced, and the of course the new Disintegration reissue. Given the quality of Disintegration, I wouldn't mind waiting for reissues of the earlier albums, but I don't see that happening anytime soon....

When searching eBay and the like for older Cure albums (Faith, Porno, 17 Seconds in particular), I see a lot of new, sometimes double-LP, pressings from a label called "Vinyl Lovers". I imagine that these are Eastern European bootleg pressings, probably sourced from the remastered CDs, and probably best left alone. Can anybody verify my suspicion?

Re: Cure albums on Vinyl

Hello!

I'm an avid collector of Cure vinyl, including rarities, etc. I use the Cure On Record book which is a very comprehensive book for Cure vinyl. This book is also quite rare but you might be able to get hold of a copy on ebay or something. I have noticed on ebay that there are quite a few bootlegs (which is good if you also want to collect those). Eil.com is a good place but very expensive!

Happy browsing and buying, and I hope we don't end up bidding against each other on ebay ;-)

Re: Cure albums on Vinyl

By no means am I a "collector", in the sense that I particularly need or want a complete collection of their entire output.... I just want vinyl that is good to listen to. Hence my willingness to wait on more re-issues.... if re-issues were indeed forthcoming... which I am fairly confident that they are not.

"Vinyl lovers is Russian" is about the most I have been able to find out about them through some cursory Google searching. Other than that they are part of 'Lilith' records.... which is also Russian. So I guess I'll skip over those pressings completely.

That leaves me with tracking down the first 4 LPs: TIB, Faith, Porno, and 17 Seconds. I assume that the best pressings of these to get would be the original US or UK albums? What about the South American records? I see a lot of Argentinean pressed albums, and also occasionally Portuguese and German... are these any good ??

Re: Cure albums on Vinyl

Well 2012 has come and gone. We are in mid-March 2013 and still no word of a reissue of “Wish” in either CD or Vinyl. I see no mention of it in upcoming Record Store Day 2013 websites. Are we to wait another 2-3 years for the “25th Anniversary” edition? If they put it out like they did with previous albums, people WILL buy them. Or are record pressing plants awash in orders that this album took a backseat? No word from Mr. Smith either. I’d hate to have to consider an overpriced eye-gouging set on eBay.

Thanks for the bump, neighbor!

Since originally posting this 2 years ago we've gotten the TIB, Faith, 17Seconds Pornography and The Top on colored vinyl for Record Store Day last year. European release only, but they're listenable pressings at least and I managed to mail order all of 'em from a shop in Norway. I was very surprised that The Top was released in that fashion... that one doesn't usually get much love.

KMx3 and Blue Sunshine are coming out Stateside this Record Store Day, also on colored vinyl. I'm expecting similar quality to last year's RSD offerings. I don't know that they're **Official Record Store Day** offerings, but that's when they're coming out

As for Wish... I'm gonna go out on a limb and guess that we'll be getting that with a 25th Anniversary treatment of some sort in a couple years.

The thing is, the 25th anniversary will be 2017?

Re: Cure albums on Vinyl

How can you see where they are from?.

I have looked at mine, they just says fiction. Maybe they are original from fiction??? One of them though (lovecats single) says "sire record company)
I bought mine (pornography, disintegration, entreat,) at a second hand record store in copenhagen. They were very cheap :-)

It varies by artist/album/record company. If country of origin isn't explicitly labeled, you can usually tell by either the UPC or the matrix numbers near the label on the record itself.

Who knows?! If they/He wanted to be precise about it, then yes. But this is The Cure & Robert Smith we're talking about... they operate on their own time. I mean... Disintegration got a 21st anniversary makeover, if he were to follow suit here, we'd see Wish before the end of this year. Not likely at this point, but again: who knows?!

Re: Cure albums on Vinyl

they may not be original pressings, but i have a pile of spanish cure lps, head, kiss, porn, top, and whispers all pressed on very heavy vinyl, they have lasted me very nicely although the inner sleeves have very iffy live photos on them rather than the usual lyrics/credits..
