Whats your favourite album/albums by The Cure and why?

I love the music of The Cure and I have just recently recieved Disintegration,I absolutely adore it and it's currently my favourite album ever because it is so beautiful, brooding and emotional. I would really like to get some more albums by The Cure as I like alot of their music both the hits and the dark songs as well as their older and new music. So I was wondering what is your favourite album and why so I can make a decison of which album to get next. Thank you :)

Disintegration has always been my favourite. Then it's a tie between Seventeen Seconds, Faith, Pornography and Wish. But my favourite Cure songs are on cd3 of Join The Dots ;-) well worth getting that once you've got the studio albums as it's a compilation of b-sides and rarities.

It's rather interesting that you said your other favourites are a tie between Seventeen Seconds, Faith, Pornography and Wish as today I just bought Seventeen Seconds for $14 and I love it, Faith is one of my favourite albums and my wonderful mother is getting me the deluxed addition for Christmas, I adore Wish and have been listening to a lot of songs from it recently but haven't got it yet and I have heard that Pornography is amazing and I do quite like One Hundred Years :) I'll have to get Join The Dots one day ^_^. What are your favourite songs from Disintegration, Seventeen Seconds, Faith, Pornography and Wish?

Seventeen Seconds has such a basic feel to it, it's great! I love the stripped-down feeling of the early albums :-)

My favourite songs? I'll give it a whirl...

Disintegration - The Same Deep Water As You, beautiful song! Disintegration the song is also very good.

Seventeen Seconds - Play For Today. I love dancing to it!

Faith - Primary, I love the rhythm. There's a Cure tribute band that I've seen a couple or so times, and Primary and Play For Today are guaranteed to get me dancing like a mad woman!

Pornography - A Short Term Effect. Another dancing favourite! ;-) My friend, who I go with to these tribute gigs (and to the proper thing) can't understand how I can dance to the darker songs, but I love it. She's more a Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me era fan.

Wish - I'd have to say Open, for it's energy. My husband and I have Trust as one of 'our songs' as well, so that's on the list as well.


Please tell me your favourite songs as you find them! :-) Have you listened to any of The Top yet? That's a bit of an odd-ball album, that one ;-)

You've got some good favourites there! My favourite favourite songs aren't on the albums, so you might not have heard them? But number one is Burn, from The Crow film, and number two is This Twilight Garden, which is a b-side.

Dancing around the house is a given :-) When my fella goes out, on comes the Cure and up goes the volume! The cat must thinking I'm barmy but I don't care ;-)

Apart from my favourites, I like all Cure songs apart from Just Say Yes (which I can't abide!) so it's difficult to suggest others. All the albums have great songs on. Want is a good song from Wild Mood Swings, and Jupiter Crash :-)

My husband likes the Cure, he took me to see them in 2000 at Wembley. He's not a big fan, but he likes them :-) how about you?

Thanks for your suggestions Cats. I have the deluxe edition of Disintegration and I really like Pirate Ships it sounds very beautiful and unique and Im getting the deluxe edition of Faith for Christmas.

Haha I also am not a fan of Just Say Yes, I usually skip it on my ipod.

I'd certainly try and not get too stressed about exams etc. make the most of your final year, it goes by really quickly! :-) I wish, in hindsight, that I had made more of an effort in my final two years. I stayed on post-16 to do my A Levels, and got decent grades, but I know I could have been a little more motivated ;-) what subjects will you be sitting?

I've been finishing my Christmas shopping :-)

Post-16 is if you decide to stay on at school. Here, we do qualifications called gcse's and they're completed when you're 16. Then you can choose to stay at school and do further qualifications like A levels, nvq's etc. After that its a degree. I did my gcse's, and then took 3 a levels in English, geography and general studies. I didn't go to university though to do a degree, I went straight into work. Sometimes I wish I did do a degree, sometimes I'm glad I didn't :-)

When did you become a fan of The Cure and how?

I need to get my sister something more, and it's also her birthday on the 28th so I need to get her birthday present sorted. There's always last-minute things to get I guess :-)

Every country's education system seems different :-) Usually we have to stay in school until we're 16, although you can leave school and work but you won't have any qualifications. I've been thinking about doing an Open University degree, one you do at home, but I need to do 15 hours a week, which is a lot when I work full-time :-)

I started being aware of the Cure in about 1990, when Lullaby was released, as I remember not really liking the video due to my spider phobia! Then when Mixed Up was released, I listened to that all the time (I borrowed the CD my dad had). Then I got Wild Mood Swings in 1996 and it just progressed from there :-) Now, I collect everything I can get my hands on, all rare vinyl etc :-)

Did you say what made you a Cure fan? I apologise if I can't remember ;-) I really hope they tour soon, and that you get to see them live :-)

I'm not sure what I would study to be honest... It would be something to do with English or Geography, to continue on from my A Levels, but a lot of them advise 15 hours study a week! That's a lot of time when you factor work etc in. We'll see.

You got into the Cure early! I was 11 when I first saw the Lullaby video in 1990. It's good that people have bought you some of the CD's :-) And getting your hands on vinyl is a very good idea! I'm a bit of an ebay-monster and I'm always nervous that they'll arrive through the post damaged! :-)

I've always liked reading, and occasionally writing. I loved doing Geography as it's so diverse, not just about volcanoes etc, but people geography as well. :-)

Im in a really good mood, I passed my learners test today and I got my license now so I can drive with someone who has an open license. It's really good, I haven't driven yet but I will soon ^_^

I'm feeling good thanks! And it's snowing again! We have another inch and it doesn't look like it's going to stop anytime soon... I hope we don't get the 18 inches we had the other week! I had to get my snowboots and boarding trousers on to get down our drive without getting wet :-)

Fear Of Ghosts is a great song, I love how it goes quiet and then builds up, and the whispered lyrics :-) It's in my top 5 Cure songs :-)

Yep, a cyclone, it's still raining now, we get cyclones all the time but luckily we haven't had a serious one for a long time. In this cyclone season we are expected to have quite a few.

I love how Robert's voice sounds during those whispered songs like Secrets, Wow it's in your top 5? What other songs are in your top five Cure songs? Gosh it would be very difficult to pick a Top five I might just manage to choose a top ten but even that would be difficult ^_^

Hello Cats, I had a nice time and it was Christmas related things like presents etc, I have now got everyones presents... finally yay! But we are going back tomorrow so I can help my Dad find presents for My Brother. Did you get your groceries?

Thank you for the suggestion Cats, I might try that when Im a bit more confident with driving. Maybe I can go driving tomorrow? I did a little bit of driving today with two other people in the car and that went well. I think the more practice I get now, the sooner I'll be able to drive around the place. Im going to be overseas for a bit so I guess I'll have to make up for that now.

Hello Cats, I had a nice time and it was Christmas related things like presents etc, I have now got everyones presents... finally yay! But we are going back tomorrow so I can help my Dad find presents for My Brother. Did you get your groceries?

Thank you for the suggestion Cats, I might try that when Im a bit more confident with driving. Maybe I can go driving tomorrow? I did a little bit of driving today with two other people in the car and that went well. I think the more practice I get now, the sooner I'll be able to drive around the place. Im going to be overseas for a bit so I guess I'll have to make up for that now.

I've not gone out yet to get my groceries. We're going to walk up to my grandparents at 1pm, and I'll pick some bits up on my way home. So far I've watched the film Unbreakable, with Bruce Willis & Samuel L Jackson. I'll now catch up on my emails etc before we head off out. :-)

Where overseas are you going? It's great to visit different places :-)

Oh okay then have a lovely day ^_^ Im taking a trip with EWT to California Im hosting in San Diego for about 10 days and we also go to Disney land, Universal Studios, LA etc, It should be amazing :) It will be my first time overseas.

I've just got back from my grandparents. It took a while as we walked there and back, as it's all snowy :-) My grandad always gives us a 'rusty nail' which is whiskey with drambuie; usually I don't get to partake as I drive!

For many years, my favourite album was "Kiss me kiss me kiss me" because I feel it showcases so many different parts of what makes The Cure such a fantastic band. Lovely ballads ("One more time", "A thousand hours"), magnificent howls ("Torture", "All I want"), superb pop songs ("Just in heaven"), great quirky stuff ("Like cockatoos") – not to mention standout opening and closing tracks ("The kiss" and "Fight", one of my favourite Cure songs.) But for the last couple of years, it's been eclipsed by the sheer phenomenal force of "Pornography". A lot of doom and gloom has been attributed to this album, but to me it's the sound of a man standing at the abyss – and fighting it with all his power. As opposed to an album like Joy Division's "Closer", which to my ears sounds like a man embracing oblivion, "Pornography" is about facing your darkest thoughts and conquering them, not submitting to them – that's why I love it so.

Like Disintegration, I think that Plainsong is one of the most beautiful opening tracks I have ever heard.:)

Hello MaxBialy thanks for commenting, Im not very familiar with Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me but I love one thousand hours and one more time is nice and Catch is excellent.

Im not too familiar with Pornography either but I really enjoy One Hundred Years, A Strange Day, A Short Term Effect and the title track is brilliant, I like your point of view about Pornography, I agree with you. I believe there is some optimisim in the closing lyric of Pornography 'I must fight this sickness, find a cure' :)

I recently got Faith and I've been listening to that a lot and Im going to get Pornography next but I've been putting it off a bit because Im worried it will be too dark but your comment and a few others have made me reconsider.

Hello! I've only been doing Christmas-ie things, visiting family etc. Tomorrow we're going to a football match, Nottingham Forest v Derby County. Games between these two are always feisty!

Plainsong used to be the opening song for live concerts until they changed to Underneath The Stars for the last concert I went to. Plainsong was much better ;-)

It's certainly not cheerful ;-) But it's quite sad and melancholy in a way, going deeper than Seventeen Seconds and Faith, it's almost like hitting rock-bottom before picking yourself back up again.

If you don't already have the originals, I'd go straight for the deluxe versions, as they're better quality and you'll likely end up getting them anyway for the 2nd cd's :-)
