Re: Whats your favourite album/albums by The Cure and why?Disintegration has always been my favourite. Then it's a tie between Seventeen Seconds, Faith, Pornography and Wish. But my favourite Cure songs are on cd3 of Join The Dots ;-) well worth getting that once you've got the studio albums as it's a compilation of b-sides and rarities.

It's rather interesting that you said your other favourites are a tie between Seventeen Seconds, Faith, Pornography and Wish as today I just bought Seventeen Seconds for $14 and I love it, Faith is one of my favourite albums and my wonderful mother is getting me the deluxed addition for Christmas, I adore Wish and have been listening to a lot of songs from it recently but haven't got it yet and I have heard that Pornography is amazing and I do quite like One Hundred Years :) I'll have to get Join The Dots one day ^_^. What are your favourite songs from Disintegration, Seventeen Seconds, Faith, Pornography and Wish?

I love the stripped-down feeling of the early albums :-) My favourite songs? I'll give it a whirl... Disintegration - The Same Deep Water As You, beautiful song! Disintegration the song is also very good. Seventeen Seconds - Play For Today. I love dancing to it! Faith - Primary, I love the rhythm. There's a Cure tribute band that I've seen a couple or so times, and Primary and Play For Today are guaranteed to get me dancing like a mad woman! Pornography - A Short Term Effect. Another dancing favourite! ;-) My friend, who I go with to these tribute gigs (and to the proper thing) can't understand how I can dance to the darker songs, but I love it. She's more a Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me era fan. Wish - I'd have to say Open, for it's energy. My husband and I have Trust as one of 'our songs' as well, so that's on the list as well. Please tell me your favourite songs as you find them! :-) Have you listened to any of The Top yet? That's a bit of an odd-ball album, that one ;-)

Re: Re: Re: Re: Whats your favourite album/albums by The Cure and why?cats_n_cheese wrote:Songsabouthappiness wrote:cats_n_cheese wrote: Thank you Cats n cheese I also kind of have a liking for some of the darker cure songs. But Im yet to see The Cure or a tribute band live so I haven't had the experience of dancing to many dark songs besides Charlotte Sometimes around the house. I have so many favourite Cure songs so this is slightly hard. Disintegration- The entire album :) Actually my favourites are Disintegration it's so powerful and emotional especially the live version on Entreat, Pictures Of You because it's so beautiful and it's one of the first Cure songs I clearly remember hearing and Plainsong because the music and lyrics are absolutly brilliant. Seventeen Seconds- Play For Today (It's my favourite Cure song at the moment) I love the music I find it interesting and it's passionate. M I like M and the opening line Hello Image sing me a line from your favourite song interests me and the whole concept. Just recently I've been getting into Secrets and Seventeen Seconds (I have a thing for title tracks well the title tracks I know Three Imaginary Boys, Seventeen Seconds, Faith, Disintegration,) Faith- Faith because it draws me in and it is somewhat optimistic (in a strange way) All Cats Are Grey- It's so slow and sounds really good and the imagery is interesting. I also like Primary the riff is catchy and the whole concept is interesting. Oh and even though it's not a proper song off Faith, Charlotte Sometimes because it's so beautiful, relatable (the whole concept of being an outsider/being alienated Charlotte Sometimes builds a wall around herself but it's filled with love so much love it looks like everything else, the people seem so close playing expressionless games and sometimes Im dreaming when all the other people dance lines are examples of that),it's interesting and it's based on literature (I should read the novel one da) Pornography- Im not familiar with two many songs off Pornography but I do like One Hundred Years even though it is quite dark. Wish- I haven't heard all the songs from Wish but I adore A Letter To Elise, From the edge of the deep green sea, to wish impossible things, trust and I have a guilty obession with Friday Im In Love. I haven't really listened to The Top but I do know The Catterpillar and I like it, it's catchy haha but I do prefer the more meaningful or sometimes darker songs but the hits are fun too and some are quite meaningful. Thats what I like about The Cure they cover a range of genres and they can release catchy awesome numbers like The Lovecats but then also release something as moving and passionate and melancholic as the Disintegration album and I actually like both their new music and old (Three Imaginary Boys included) as well as both their hit songs and album tracks.

Maybe your Cats like The Cure, I was listening to Disintegration on cd and my cat came in for just one song I think it may have been Untitled or Prayers For Rain, possibly Disintegration and as soon as the song finished it left... Do you have any suggestions for some Cure songs that I would like based on the ones I have mentioned. Thank you Cats it's always nice talking to another Cure fan :)

Thank you Cats but I haven't actually done the tests/assignments yet. Well up until now nothing has actually significantly mattered yet well it hasn't affected my op score i.e. the last eleven years of school. So every assesment/test for next year and the QCS test becomes my high school results and actually we find out our OP score on this date next year, the previous grade 12s are finding out theres today. So I just have to try and do the best I can next year, not get too stressed out and enjoy my last year of highschool. It should be pretty fun although it is a huge year for me not only will it be the lasts of everything there will be some first like the formal etc. I think it's going to be a great year and one I will remember forever. Anyways How are you today Cats?

What did you do today? I completly agree with you it will be a year of new experiences formal, becoming an adult etc. lasts (quite a few lasts actually), reminscing, learning, self discovery and a lot of other things and I should try and enjoy it and relax and get the most out of my final year. Thanks Cats. Im from Australia and basically even in each state the method and even names of your final result is different. Im not to sure what post-16 means, so if you could explain it to me, it would be much appreciated. In QLD our test is called QCS and your final results is your OP Score the highest op score is one and the lowest is twenty-six. Also your marks in Grade Eleven do not affect your Op Score, Grade Eleven is basically preparing you for Grade Twelve. So next year is what it all comes down to. The Subjects I will be sitting are English, Maths, Ancient History, French, Indonesian and Radio (Which isn't an Op Class, so my grades in Radio don't affect my score either). Besides these classes, next year I will also have a class about QCS and I have three lessons of spares a week. :) What subjects did you sit?

But I should be finished soon. :) Wow thats very different to our system in Australia. At the end of Grade 10 you have to either be earning or learning or (tafe, apprenticeships or both, so when you're fifteen you can leave school and work). Then at the end of Grade 12 as I mentioned you get your Op Score and your Queensland Certificate Of Education (if you qualify for it) then you can do whatever you want, most people have a gap year and travel or save up money before going to university as our Ops last for three years. When did you become a fan of The Cure and how?

There's always last-minute things to get I guess :-) Every country's education system seems different :-) Usually we have to stay in school until we're 16, although you can leave school and work but you won't have any qualifications. I've been thinking about doing an Open University degree, one you do at home, but I need to do 15 hours a week, which is a lot when I work full-time :-) I started being aware of the Cure in about 1990, when Lullaby was released, as I remember not really liking the video due to my spider phobia! Then when Mixed Up was released, I listened to that all the time (I borrowed the CD my dad had). Then I got Wild Mood Swings in 1996 and it just progressed from there :-) Now, I collect everything I can get my hands on, all rare vinyl etc :-) Did you say what made you a Cure fan? I apologise if I can't remember ;-) I really hope they tour soon, and that you get to see them live :-)

The British system seems quite good. What would you be studying? We have the same thing in Australia. Also if you want to enter university and it's been more than three years since you recieved your op score or you never got one you can take tests and enter as a mature aged student. What field of work do you do? That's a rather nice way to get into The Cure's music, I wish I had of become a fan earlier. No I don't think I've told you my story of how I got into The Cure. Well since I was very young I would hear Boys Don't Cry, Close To Me and The Lovecats on the radio and I used to sing Just Like Heaven on Singstar all the time when I was seven but I didn't know who The Cure were at the time. Also I had seen the music videos to all the songs mentioned and Lets Go To Bed on a music program. Also I knew of the band's name as a lot of my favourite artists were inspired/influenced by The Cure. Then one day in 2008 I was listening to the radio, Lovecats came on and my dad told me a little bit about The Cure and then I started my first Cure phase, I watched some video clips on Youtube and I had found out they were in Australia a few months before. I had about six songs on my ipod and my favourites at the time were Charlotte Sometimes, A Forest and Pictures Of You. I used to listen to Charlotte Sometimes and A Forest at night before going to bed when I was thirteen and thinking that the music was dark and a little creepy but I adored the songs. Then I had a lot of other music phases. And this year after finding their Best Of Cd in our school Radio station I listened to all of their hit songs but at the beginining of the year I was into Muse quite alot. Then one day I started listening to all the hit songs again, then I watched some music videos and searched for Charlotte Sometimes as it wasn't on the cd and it all began from there and after listening to some of their other hit songs Catch, A Night Like This etc. I went in a more darker direction listening to some songs from Faith, Disintegration and One Hundred Years. I read about The Cure, I listened to the music, experienced the emotions, looked at photos and music videos, talked to Cure fans and then ended up knowing quite a little bit about the band and the brilliant Robert Smith ^_^ Also I recieved the deluxe edition of Disintegration for my birthday, found a cassette at home which was the Three Imaginary Boys album, then I bought Seventeen Seconds and my mum is giving me the deluxe edition of Faith and Paris for Christmas. So that's my story so far. I would love to find some of their albums on vinyl maybe when I'm in America ^_^ I would love to see them live, it would be incredible and thank you for saying that, it's very kind. :) How are you today?

She used to listen to The Cure in the 80s and she knew most of the songs of the greatest hits CD :). I have two albums at the moment, the Paris album arrived in the mail (we got it off ebay for $10, it's +$23 in the shops here) and that's hidden away with Faith. I think I might try and get some from Record Exchanges in America :) On my birthday I brought Disintegration to school to show a friend of mine who liked a few Cure songs and then one of my guy friends asked to have a look at it and told me he had a vinyl copy of Disintegration and their second album Seventeen Seconds they actually belong to his Grandfather, my friend and I were quite surprised. Then we were flipping through the booklet and their was Robert as 'The Spiderman' in the corner of the wall my friend said "He looks creepy... I like it" it made me laugh.hehe. Also buying vinyl is difficult because there are no record exchanges in this city at all. After listening to some more songs from Wish today Im thinking about purchasing it. I really like A Letter To Elise, From The Edge Of The Deep Green Sea, To Wish Impossible Things, Friday Im In Love, Doing The Unstuck, End, and Apart. What do you think of Wish?

I hope you have a fantastic time! I've just got back from my grandparents. It took a while as we walked there and back, as it's all snowy :-) My grandad always gives us a 'rusty nail' which is whiskey with drambuie; usually I don't get to partake as I drive!

Was it nice spending time with your grandparents? I bet it was lovely walking through the snow. Im glad you got to tray a 'rusty nail'. Aww it must be difficult being the designated driver. It's Christmas eve here and it's raining quite heavily and there are weather warnings, the rain is supposed to get heavier soon and last for a few days but it's okay. Dad and I are going shopping to get my brother a few presents. Cats, I hope you have a lovely Christmas and that you enjoy your Christmas presents especialy your special vinyl copy of Entreat Plus. Merry Christmas Cats :D

Re: Whats your favourite album/albums by The Cure and why?I hope you don't get a rainy Christmas! It's been quite bad for rain this year for you by the looks of it. I also wish you a fantastic Christmas, especially since you'll get yours first ;-)

Re: Whats your favourite album/albums by The Cure and why?For many years, my favourite album was "Kiss me kiss me kiss me" because I feel it showcases so many different parts of what makes The Cure such a fantastic band. Lovely ballads ("One more time", "A thousand hours"), magnificent howls ("Torture", "All I want"), superb pop songs ("Just in heaven"), great quirky stuff ("Like cockatoos") – not to mention standout opening and closing tracks ("The kiss" and "Fight", one of my favourite Cure songs.) But for the last couple of years, it's been eclipsed by the sheer phenomenal force of "Pornography". A lot of doom and gloom has been attributed to this album, but to me it's the sound of a man standing at the abyss – and fighting it with all his power. As opposed to an album like Joy Division's "Closer", which to my ears sounds like a man embracing oblivion, "Pornography" is about facing your darkest thoughts and conquering them, not submitting to them – that's why I love it so.

I haven't been on in a few days because I've been busy with Christmas and packing for America. What have you been up to?

Im not too familiar with Pornography either but I really enjoy One Hundred Years, A Strange Day, A Short Term Effect and the title track is brilliant, I like your point of view about Pornography, I agree with you. I believe there is some optimisim in the closing lyric of Pornography 'I must fight this sickness, find a cure' :) I recently got Faith and I've been listening to that a lot and Im going to get Pornography next but I've been putting it off a bit because Im worried it will be too dark but your comment and a few others have made me reconsider.

I've only been doing Christmas-ie things, visiting family etc. Tomorrow we're going to a football match, Nottingham Forest v Derby County. Games between these two are always feisty! Plainsong used to be the opening song for live concerts until they changed to Underneath The Stars for the last concert I went to. Plainsong was much better ;-)

Did you have a nice Christmas? Enjoy the football match, Australians always call it soccer and once in French class a british person and an aussie was arguing whether it should be called football or soccer :P Im just relaxing and sorting stuff out before I leave on New Years Eve. I can't believe that in two days I'll be travelling to the other side of the world, it's quite exciting, :) Wow I would love to see Plainsong played live, that would be an awesome opener. Im not familiar with Underneath The Stars though.

Also I've been really into the Wish album at the moment, I just need to find a copy and I've checked my local cd shops but it's not there, maybe I'll find a copy in the US or I could wait till they release the deluxe edition.

Re: Whats your favourite album/albums by The Cure and why?If you don't already have the originals, I'd go straight for the deluxe versions, as they're better quality and you'll likely end up getting them anyway for the 2nd cd's :-)
