Apart fans ?

I've always considered Apart as maybe one of the best Cure songs but generally there's little buzz what this song is concerned amongst the fans.

The lyrics are top , the guitar solo and Roberts haunting background voice that sings in duet with the main voice. Eerie !

Are there any other Apart fans out there ?

YES!!!

I was only just discussing The Cure with a friend today...

we were dating as teenagers back in the summer of 1990, and our relationship was soooo centred around listening to The Cure. She loved the poppier tunes like Close To Me, whilst I was wrapped up in the darker tracks like The Kiss.

after a love for Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me, and Disintegration, I bought the 'High' 12" which was ok, but I was completely alienated by 'Friday I'm In Love' and never bought Wish, until I rediscovered it a couple of years ago.
So, the two of us met and married different people, but have retained a close friendship, and spend plenty of time together with 2 sets of kids now!
anyway, about an hour ago I played her 'Apart' to introduce her to an amazing song, and explained how daft it was that a poppy tune I didn't like, had prevented me from hearing classic songs like 'Apart', 'Open' and '...Deep Green Sea' !!!!

go figure...!

I find that song bittersweet. It is a beautiful song from one of my favorite albums, but it always takes me back to the ending of a realtionship I was in for many years. It was once beautiful and I thought we'd always be together but we grew apart for many reasons and in the end we were almost strangers. Ugh! Bad time in my life... So that song is kinda hard to listen to

The song is really honest in what it is about. I think everyone has come across such a moment in his life.

It's such a sad song. It used to remind me of bad times with my ex, but now, it's just a lovely song :-)

The content is definitely sad , I'm drawn to the haunting background vocals. I think it's the coolest effect they have ever used. It starts as a whisper and then it gradually becomes louder and louder almost ending in a duet with himself.
Anyone else noticed it ?

Yes, and its gradual so you don't notice it until the end of the song. Pretty but sad song.

This is a great song. I think it's their saddest song. Other songs are maybe more tortured, more despair, darker. "Apart" is just pure sadness.

Personally, I think it is one of the greatest tracks of all time... My favorite is the Live in Paris version. It is so melancholic and elegant-- a mixture that only The Cure can pull off. I'm instantly sucked away into a grey, beautiful-- but tragic world every time I hear it... LOVE IT.
