Song Meanings/Inspirations

There are probably websites out there with song meaning already either I can't find them or they are fans interpretations but I would love official meanings of songs.

I was going to suggest a similiar thing as you can search the internet but it would be convinent to have everything all in one place.

Helloworld I believe it's not all about sex & drugs. What about the Disintegration album do you trully believe it's all about sex or drugs or what about Faith for that matter or even Three Imaginary Boys or basically every single album released by The Cure. In my opinion each one has atleast one song which isn't about sex or drugs and quite a few of their songs have more than one meaning but I guess it's up to your own interpretation, Im not trying to say that you are wrong,I just have a different opinion although I know their are certain songs about sex or drugs but I believe there has always been more to The Cure than just that.

I would be intrested to see your point of view. I know (from Robert's own responses) that some songs are inspired or about literature, love, faith (or lack of), depression, various dreams, angst or hatred, isolation and ostraciziation, happiness, fear and many other things.

Rich girl I do know of a Cure fansite www.charlottesometimes.fr.st which has Roberts inspirations for most Cure songs (Well all The Cure songs from a lot of the studio albums, from the albums Three Imaginary Boys to Wish excluding Disintegration as it's too personal)

Songsabouthappiness, I totally agree with you. I hate this side of the modern world where everything thing has to be about sex and drugs, it's so sad and boring. There's a lot more to this world then that and the sooner people realise that the better I think. A good song is when it can mean something personal to the writer or artist then mean something completely different to the fans. With some songs you can't say, 'oh I like that dance to this' or 'it's a catchy number', sometimes I don't think you can even call it a favourite song it's that deep and personal. Songs mean different things to different people and I'm not saying anyone is wrong, because everyone is intitled to an opion, but sometimes you need to think about what the song is trying to tell you and not the thing that first pops into your head. I know a few songs that dig deep into artist's past and I don't think they'd appreciate people saying it's all about sex and drugs.

Disintegration is a story beginning in deceit. A secret unfolds within a conscious knowledge and lies are told. But together they survived their trials as Robert sings of pure treachery. That to it's bitter end they we not allow their plan to breath before development. Love will prevail in time for the journey to start.
