To improve web site:-

Check out the running of Bowie's web. An amalgamation of how the two run/work would produce best results.

Re: To improve web site:-

There are a few great band sites. I think this place does need a little tweaking, and some new features etc ;-)

There are good band sites and there are bad band sites (like those ones where you have to pay to be in their fanclub thingy), I think this one just needs a few extra things to make it more exciting to look through. It's not the worse I've seen, one time I couldn't explore the site because there was no links or anything, strange dayz. cxx

When I mentioned amalgamation of this and Bowies I would have ommited the payment part.
I would think the mark of a good site has more to do with the integration of the users and not the actual site.
I always find silly games and ideas work well...

Ah, silly games would get rather sillier here! ;-)

This place used to be great, I dont know why we started leaving it (course after the forum was 'currently close'). Before that I remember that I used to post everyday. When the forum re-open I guess I lost interest in it. However, I love reading comments and posting, but not as much as I used to!

Had there been a reason the Forum closed?

Re: To improve web site:-

posted somewhere else, but thought, as it would be a kind of improvement, i'd put it in here too..

how about a poll, some polls, a thread for polls?
i like stats, and rather than just trawling through lists and lists and quote after quote within lists, a few simple polls would convey information without mouse cramp.

if anyone is aware of talkawhile.com they do polls all the while, so it must be fairly simple to set up..

and they have competitions, with real prizes, and special guest q and a sections, and a countdown to the next major event, usually a festival or release date.
and lots of the members are in bands and get to talk about what they are up to, not just the main band, being fairport convention, who don't do much anymore..

anyway, piece said, hope someone in charge is listening.

@ToonLeonC14 Yes, it was closed down for a few months, all I will say (for fear it will start again!) is that there was a 'clash of personalities' between long-standing members and an invisi-mod. There were a couple of other factors like abusive spam etc that contributed. But now it's back, and it's not the same as before :-(

Re: To improve web site:-

It'd be better if Robert got off his butt and posted every once in a while (I'm not trying to be offensive but it's true). And something that I've been thinking about is when you look up song lyrics there could be a little search engine that you can type the song name into and get to the lyrics.
Oh, and the other members need to post too since we never get to really hear from them.

Lyrics

Look at the top of the page and you'll see "Words" click and you will find most, if not all, of the lyrics neatly categorized by year:)

Re: To improve web site:-

As for band members posting, RS used to occasionally, but that was back in 2005 or so. Something changed though (when the label changed from Fiction) when the site went from the Bloodflowers theme to the Cure album theme, we lost all the moderators who were also members, and RS didn't post anymore except for any news on the home page.

I think this site is brilliant as it is. Of course, I don't know what it was like back then, as I've only just joined a few days ago. But I don't think anything could be improved.

It did used to be better, including how the forum was set up. They say change is as good as a rest, but not always ;-) And lack of (decent) moderation is a woeful omission! But we're stuck with what we're given, and we're making the best of it ;-)
