APPLICATION FOR SITE MODERATOR

I hereby put myself forward to apply for the post of moderator on this site.
If there is still anyone around with any authority to grant this I would be interested to hear from you.
It's been a long time since anything benefitting the forumites has been seen. We need someone (or some people) to monitor this once great site and erase all the spam posts and keep the 'riff-raff' out once and for all. Btw....'riff-raff- is how I (Personally) see certain people or companies totally using up space for plying their trade....ie...the golf spammers.
So, as I said, IF there is anyone with any clout and you're looking for someone to 'do the business' as they say, I'm that person.
"Oh, but you've only been a member for a short while" I hear people saying.
BULLSHIT!!!! I have been a regular here since at least 1996, remembering the old Wild Mood Swings themed site.
I've seen decent people come and decent people go. It's time that this once great site becomes great again and hopefully we can get back to how things USED to be.

Hi Lily.
A few years back now the whole site imploded.
One of the mods...possibly the only mod...was someone who was very very close to the band...was named (on here) Granville Harris, but his real name was Keith Uddin. You'll find his name credited on a few of the recentish albums as sound engineer.
To cut a long story short there was a huge argument involving Keith and other members of the forum and certain members took one side and others took the others. Tere was a serious amount of unpleasantness and many people left. Keith quit as mod but the nasty taste lingered on and on until only a very few people remained to post.
The whole ambience of the site was gone forever and the fact the forum closed for months didn't help. When it eventually came back hardly anyone else did, preferring the awful Cureconnections and a handful of other fansites.
There are certain members who can probably fill you in more....Miss Cats, Cure Caterpillar, even Levs and others.
What we need here is someone to control this site, send the word out and get the old ones back again AND to regulate the rubbish being spammed.
This is what I would like to see and I'm sure a lot of others would too.
After all, this IS the alleged official site of the greatest band in the land. Let's get it back to its former glory.

Hi Aurora :) I remember the Granville Harris days and the excitement/drama involved. I was a very infrequent poster back then and just popped in now and then to see what was going on with the band. I stopped coming here for awhile because there was so much infighting amongst members here that it had nothing to offer me. It seems that things have calmed down a bit, but we could surely do without shoe spam! haha :) I'd love to see some regulation of this kind crap! I wonder who you could talk to about becoming a mod here? Looove The Cure, and always will :)

I used to post a lot in those days, obviously not with the name I use now. I was one of the alleged 'wrong' siders and my life was made almost as much of a misery as GH. Who was right? Who was wrong? I'm still not 100% sure. A lot of what GH did was ok, but he made a pretty bad mistake and DJ and HIS band of friends pounced on it and GH paid dearly for it. Still, I believe it was blown out of all proportion and the place was never the same again.
We know for a fact that Mr Smith never looks in here...well, if he does he NEVER posts any more and now The Cure are no longer on Geffen I have absolutely NO idea who is keeping this site going. Who's paying for it? No idea.
However, if there is someone who can point me in the right direction or contact me, my offer still stans.
Golf clubs? Headphones? Wtf is that all about??

You know it's interesting that when the site was down last time, the only one that could post was Robert, and he did. Now it's back up for us Pooof! now only posts on Facebook. ???!!!???

I missed out on GH. When I was ill I steered away from this site because I was paranoid, probably a good thing!

The only thing I knew about GH was that in the beginning, some people were excited and thinking maybe it was Robert or some other band member posting under that name. After that, I have no idea what happened. Oh well, it's all in the past. A mod here would be great. Don't care about tennis shoes, I don't even own tennis shoes! haha! I'm not a sporty gal!

I think that might have happened with a few posters along the way with different people in hope of brushing shoulders with band members. It did seem that there were alot more people posting in those days. But the came MySpace and Facebook and so on. I think some fell away due to that and some were turned off by the fighting here. I'd love to see this place spring to life again, but without all the drama AND golf clubs! BTW..I'm a heels or house slippers kind of gal! :)

It used to be Interscope. I just checked back there and their sign in which used to be like ours has changed and The Cure are no longer listed as an artist. My guess is that The Cure are running it, which thinking back to the old site would mean that it's a free for all.

I can only assume that The Cure (or one of their backroom boys/girls) keeps this place 'alive'. They do not have record deal with anyone, as far as I know, so someone must be paying to keep this online.
You would think though that there would be more input wouldn't you. After all, the only one to post was/is Robert, and the only time he's posted in the last few years is to announce tours or questionable collaborations....all involving us spending our hard-earned money.
IF Robert, or anyone involved with this site, reads this thread, then PLEASE allow someone to oversee this once wonderful website.
Somehow, I'm not holding my breath.

I have no interest in joining facebook, if that is now the only site the cure will post on how disappointing, not that long ago I saw a interview with RS when he said that he had no presence on any social networking sites, he only listed his name as the real Robert Smith to stop anyone pretending to be him. I get bored listening to people in work talk about who's eating what for lunch on their day off, cos that's the only nonsense they seem to post on facebook, or send each other a beer??

I'm not on Facebook either. My issue with it is that I see so many people that I knew in school that hated each other and were so mean to the "nerds", and now they all want to be Facebook friends with the same people they were mean to. I just don't feel like letting the world know what my every move or thought is, and definitely not make my personal life the source of entertainment for the b*tches in school that made me hate myself. No offense to anyone here who may be on those sites, It's just not my thing, sorry to rant! Who manages the band or does their promoting? Maybe you can find an email or something for that person and propose your idea...

It's the cheapest advertising on earth for them and they would be mad not to use it but like you, not everyone uses it and the official site should probably be a fan's first stop for news. Right now they are teaching Cure fans not to come to this site, maybe it's intentional?

Just make up a dumb handle and go to their page and press like. I don't use my full name so morons can't find me and I don't have many 'friends' because of that. Cure people tend to find each other too :)

Yes they have on The Cure page. Robert's seems to have been shut down. The Cure post most probably helped get the Beautiful Noise documentary project to reach it's $75,000 goal what with people sharing it around and all. That's unreal, they're up to nearlly $83,000.

That link won't show here,is it good?, I don't believe RS ever posted on any of his social network sites,he just set pages up to stop other people pretending to be him. It must just be the group's page that is active.

Thanks for the link to "Beautiful Noise" Leah :) The $ is up to $84,000 or something like that. "Treasure" is my favorite Cocteau Twins album, so it was really fun to hear that Robert likes them too :)

Ok, here's another reason we REALLY need a mod here. Look in my profile page and under my first picture someone left a comment and it's a message asking for friendship and possibly love. She's posted the SAME exact message on Robert's page and a few other girls as well. I don't want to be mean but it's unwanted and I want to have this deleted from my profile. Arrgh. Robert, sweets..where is your delete button?

Eh, it's ok. I do wish that we could have more control over our pages. Deleting unwanted comments, etc would be nice. perhaps this site needs an overhaul?

Suz,this site DOES need someone to monitor it regardless of what you say. We need someone to kick off all the spammers.....the golf people for one....make sure people post in the right place and generally keep an eye out for bullying, spamming and any sorts of unpleasantness.
Granville (Keith) was extremely highly strung and far to 'partial' to moderate this place proplerly. Anyone who disagreed with him was instantly harrassed and thrown off.
Someone who is 'rational' is needed imo.
Who agrees with me?

We really don't need all the unpleasantness dragged out in the open again MissArrow. This is not meant as a slight to you, but people all have their own opinions on what happened. A brief resume is the site was split into three different factions. One supported Keith, one disliked Keith and the third didn't take sides.

Which spawned the spawn that started the war that raged for YEARS and ruined this forum. So, no.

Again, "others", as you put it have NO say-so in matters of any kind whatsoever on this forum. What you're doing is no different from "others" who attempted to take control over the board by soliciting support for the same damn kind of thing. It always fails. As it always has before. It evolves into the most vile sorts of cliques that rally against one particular person or another. Lines are drawn in the imaginary sand and people take threatening sides and it's another all out war that goes on for years until Robert gets BLAMED for not taking one side or another and THEN The Cure get blamed for whatever...it's such a freaking nuthouse that people leave to get away from the people who are like that...why would anyone blame Robert and The Cure for anything? When it is always the forum fans, themselves, who are being the huge idiots by trying to force their will, here...as iF! One even had the audacity to post an off site PETITION to FORCE Robert to do her bidding here. That didn't bode well at all. It was in no time at all Robert must have caught the fetid wind of it through the grapevine and got so effing disgusted with all of it and then the forum was locked down for a long, long time. That didn't go on because there wasn't any Moderation here. That all happened BECAUSE there was!

Much earlier on, at one time thecure.com went YEARS without a forum. Then FINALLY, here we have a forum. THEN we ended up with two Moderators who interacted rudely, biased, bossy, and it got sooooooo bad. It was godawful. Indescribable. When I think back to IT, I feel nauseous.It rapidly progressed into being The First Major Forum War. You must not have been here during the first major Forum War. It lasted for freaking years. It was horrible. I still blame it on fully the Moderators at that time. What few survivors who are still here might see it differently, but I watched it evolve from the very first posting. Then there was the second major Forum War with Keith. It wasn't nearly as bad, but it got horribly ugly. It was during that period that other renegade forums were created by FURIOUS ex-forum members from here to get away from this forum AND some people they didn't "approve" of for whatever reasons or the spam of that time (this was pre-golf guy), this forum's moderation (which they didn't approve of in the way it was done...it's NEVER approved of...ever) and so and so on. It took most of the people with it. Maybe they have a moderator of their own liking and such. I don't know. I don't care. I don't go to other forums. I don't have the time.

These are not my "opinions". This is historical fact. Only a fleck of it. A small smithereen of fact.

Again, "others" opinion on this matters not a diddly squat. This isn't yours, mine or their website.

Oh I have faith that you'd blow the keg because ALREADY you are showing intolerance to MY supposed OPINION. Wake up and smell the indignation because your rallying back with constant "this is your opinion" remarks indicates your natural tendency to try to command this thread. Which I find ironic. And which proves, in a nutshell, that you would make a terrible moderator on this particular forum. It's just the sort of thing that sparked other wars here. Start a fire here as a moderator and no one at all will be able to put it out.
