Am I the only one that finds Disintegration boring next to KissMex3?

I know I'm probably going to get flamed for this, but I have just listened to both KissMex3 and Disintegration back to back(for probably the 1000'th time). I have owned both albums since they came out in 1987 and 1989 respectively. To this day, I am puzzled at how many people consider Disintegration The Cure's "Masterpiece"...especially when compared to Kiss Me. I don't know why, but I find Disintegration rather boring compared to Kiss me, which I consider is nothing short of SUPERB!

I have listened Kiss Me on and off over the last 20 some odd years and I STILL never get tired of it! It's such a diverse record with many different styles, some of which have never been repeated on any other album.

I mean seriously....can you name ONE song off Disintegration that is as original and innovative as Like Cockatoos or Icing Sugar? I didn't think so. Every song off Kiss Me is a fucking MASTERPIECE!!! There isn't one that I skip when I listen to it.

Disintegration's songs on the other hand, while certainly not bad, are just...well, ordinary to me. Don't get me wrong, it's still a good album, but I guess I'm one of the few fans that never really jumped on the Disintegration hype train.

Am I the only one that feels this way?

You cannot argue about tastes , I find that the occasion or my mood decides what album is hot and which is not.<br />I think Disintegration has masterpiece status because of the way it's been composed , the theme and the lyrics.<br />I think it's quite difficult to pull off a record with 12 songs that sound so connected. <br />Look at Bloodflowers , it doesn't have half the dark vibe of Pornography or Disintegration because there's no real theme , the songs are not connected by the sound color.<br />Blood flowers is a good album don't get me wrong but I never saw it as part of the trilogy.<br />Just my opinion.<br />

I love disintegration, but i will say that i have to be in the right mood to listen to it. A lot of the albums appeal to me is that every song seems so significant. On other albums you can usually tell which songs were most important and which ones weren't. On disintegration you feel like Robert put everything he could into each song.

KMKMKM is a more faster-tempo album, and there are some fantastic songs on there. Disintegration is my favourite, I like the atmospherics of it, the melancholy and the veiled optimism I find in it. But I'll listen to KMKMKM over Disintegration if I want to have a dance around the living room :-)

I agree that you have to be in the right mood to listen to Disintegration, or any of the other albums for that matter! KMKMKM is one of my least favourite, as it's too poppy & upbeat & I am rarely in that sort of mood!!!, having said that there are some beautiful songs on there! Let's face it, us Cure fans are spoilt for choice!

The two albums are apples and oranges, very different sounding records. I often agonize over the "best Cure album debate". I usually settle on the holy trilogy: The Head on the Door, Kiss MeX3 and Disintegration. All three sound very different but are equally as good in my opinion.

I wouldn't say it was boring, but there are other albums I find myself listening to much more than Disintegration. It kind of depresses me. I have to be in the mood for it although I think it's a brillant album.

I like disintegration and kiss me i think disintegration is cool its more smoothed out than kiss me but kiss me has its good points with the kiss and jlh and why cant i be you and more

Yes those are indeed great! I just can't get enough(no pun intended lol) of Kiss Me though. It's so dark and visceral. The only "happy" songs on it IMHO are WCIBY, The Catch and maybe JLH. Everything else has sort of a sinister tone to it, but very elegant at the same time.

I agree. But don't you find that most songs, even ones that sound happier, often have a sinister undertone with the lyrics?

My favorite album changes according to my current mood. I love them all. For me, I don't think any of them is better than the other. I feel attached to some more than others...and that changes too, according to how my thinking processes are processing at any given time. At one point or another, each album has been my current favorite.

My new current favorite, once again...for now, is JOIN THE DOTS.

I prefer Disintigration now, but as the record that made me a curefan, Kiss Me has a special place
in my collection

I absolutely love Disintegration even after all these years,i still listen to it frequently and never get sick of it.That album is a masterpiece from beginning to end.

I think they're both great albums. I've a lot of respect for both of them and I've listened to them a million times, but i'd still rather listen to Seventeen Seconds.
and yes, of the two I tend to favor KM3.
