How would you describe cure genre?

Hey, I've been thinking about how could I describe cure genre, is it psychedelic, punk, new wave, dark wave, pop, rock'n'roll, goth rock or what? How do you think? And which albums belongs to which genre?

Seriously, though, I'd say they're post-punk, or alternative rock if you want to be more general. There's still a clear punk influence in their music today, but they definitely have their own, unique sound. Their music is timeless, relevant and inspirational.

The tricky thing is, they cover so many different genres!

78-79 punk, 80-82 post-punk, 83-85 pop, 86-present alternative..?

not much progress since kiss me, even though the sound has been altered plenty from album to album, there is a generic feel to all cure stuff since they went global, and alternative is about as close as you get, without singling out specific tracks..
which is too anal even for me.

I think that they don't have one certain genre, because all kinds of people can interpret what The Cure are trying to say in so many different ways, for example, someone could look at One Hundred years and think it's Gothic and Dark, or someone could look at it like me and think that it is really painfull and sad

Hmmm... that's a very difficult question...
I definitely wouldn't say they're a punk band. They've gone a bit beyond rock 'n' roll, I think. Some of their stuff, like The Walk and some other stuff are like Pop, although I wouldn't call The Cure a Pop group either. Their music is hard to categorize properly. As some of their stuff is a bit dark, I suppose out of the genres you've mentioned, the best I can put them in is goth rock.
Hmmm... very difficult question to answer... perhaps The Cure are just uncategorisable? Have you thought of that?

like most bands or artist, it's hard to put into a hole, look at the beatles, the mode, the cure, etc, they just kept, breaking new ground.

As Robert once said... it's "Cure music". I agree, they're their own genre of music. But, if I HAD TO tag a genre onto them, I would say, "post-punk".

I don't think that The Cure songs can be categorized into one particular genre. It's much too confining. The Cure is THE Cure. Nobody else is nor can actually be, although they may try to. They are anything they want to be and then some...they're progressive, rocky, rollie, jazzy, experimental, instrumental, alternative, electronic, orchestral, punky, post-punky...all that and much more. The diversity of the songs is the first thing that drew me to the band.

There is no genre that can describe The Cure music. Well, and that's wonderful about The Cure. Their music is the only one that couldn't be close in one or any genre. The Cure is our cure of life. :) They're individuals and they're creators of rock genres such as goth, new wave, cold wave etc.

psychedelic rock, alternative and pos punk
