Does 'Gone!' irritate anyone else?

Just wondering. Playing WMS now and the hackles on the back of my neck went up as the song played through. Maybe it's because I know what it feels like to have a fucked head and find a song like that a bit patronising.

Out of a handful of songs I can't abide by Blobert & Co "Gone" has to be the worst. Not only is the song (to me) awful but the video with those old women playing brass has to be one of the worst videos ever made.
What was he thinking??

Re: Does 'Gone!' irritate anyone else?

Ughhhh I forgot about that video. The highlight for me is the guy who goes in to go to sleep with 'Thick As Shit' on is TShirt...

Meanwhile to warm my heart....

Feels like you're, coming apart and,
you've entertained the thought that you're out of things to say and you,
haven't even started, you haven't even started.
You're gonna have to find the words to put on the page and,
Get around the corner, get around the corner
And nothing is the way, the way it was before.
You're left with just these after thoughts to keep you warm and,

When all the sunlight in your eyes, feels forgotten,
is there light at the end of this tunnel?
And it feels like we're drownin',
sinkin' to the bottom.
Is there light at the end of this tunnel?
If the only thing to do now is just start runnin',
for the light at the end of this tunnel.

Sometimes, anything just breaks your heart and,
you hold out your arms to keep day and night apart so.
This is never ending, nothing is ending.
You turn back the clock 'til the clock is no more now.
Time means nothing, time can't touch you.
It's nowhere to the start and, nowhere to the end.
But tomorrow somehow finds its way to us again and,

When all the sunlight in your eyes, feels forgotten.
Is there light at the end of this tunnel?
And you feel like we're drownin',
sinkin' to the bottom.
Is there light at the end of this tunnel?
If the only thing to do now, is just start, just start runnin',
for the light at the end of this tunnel.
For the light at the end of this tunnel.
For the light.

I was being sarcastic. I think Robert has a warped sense of humour, the writing was even in capitals. At a guess the song is more for happy and healthy people rather than those on the other side.

I never really thought about the song that way. Maybe it's because I rarely listen to it all the way through anymore

yeah it's a dud. There aren't many, but that one is.
It's probably too difficult, but I was listening to Cut Here on Greatest Hits today and thought it would be amazing if Robert wrote a song considering his friend's perspective rather than how it directly affected him. I was thinking that he passed away after WMS so wonder if he still feels the same. I think too much...

I feel like noting that at that time of total exhaustion from battling nothing anyone says can help. If you're lucky someone recoginises it and rips you out of it, even luckier if you rip yourself out of it. The system is slow and unresponsive and people don't get the treatment they need when they need it. I feel blessed that I already had a psychiatrist,I should be dead. He had tried to give me Anti depressants but I wouldn't take them because I didn't think I was depressed. That's the thing, people feel like shit but don't know what it is and feel they can't explain it.. I think I should get off my soapbox.

Ain't nothing wrong with a soap-box! :-)
I know what you mean though, doctors are so quick to dish out meds sometimes, without trying to see what the actual problems are, and treating it that way. RS does seem to have a lot of personal things to draw from, I suppose since he used to do drugs himself, he'd know a fair few people who also did and suffered more from them :-(

I love the song. But around 16 years ago it got me into a LOT of lingering trouble. A misunderstanding the I still don't think is quite understood. It might never be. Even so, I still love the song.

Hi Suzanne! It's been a while. There's songs around that I listen to like silverchair's Emotion Sickness that for me is more meaningful and motivating to the troubled than Gone! which I find a bit patronising. I am not sure it would help anyone get out of a hole and those that are can hardly see two feet in front of them let alone care about missing the world. That's my take on it anyway, irritating.

I konw what you mean.but I don´t see it that way.
during a depression it won´t do anything for you, and Will be quite annoying. kind of sick of hearing people say that you should just get yourself together.
But as anyone else I also have days where I am just lazy, and I think the message is okay then. Well, because those days I can use a kick from behind (can you say that in english?)
:-)

For me cold pretty much sums of my worst depression.... it still has a huge impact on me, when I hear it. So don´t listen to it that often. actually the whole pornography album was put away for some time because of the negative impact it has on me. although it is my favorite album.

Re: Does 'Gone!' irritate anyone else?

the surprising thing about 'Gone' was that it was released as a single (peaked at No60 in the UK Charts). Surely before releasing a single some PR is done to see who the target audience would be. Gone isn't a diehard fan song nor can I see it appealing to the 'everyday' music public
