Am I alone with this?

Okay, like all of you I love The Cure and all the songs most of the World love, but...I have to say my favourite albumn is The Top. Is this weird? I have never heard of anyone liking it as much as I do (anyway). So I'm gonna ask and please help this aussie out...who else also loves it?

Re: Am I alone with this?

The Top is my least favorite album, but I do find it interestingly annoying, which is not a bad thing.

Wailing Wall, for example, is an eerie little tune that I can listen to without it getting stuck in my head the rest of the day. That’s a good thing.

You Stayed, from the deluxe edition, reminds me of a stray momma cat and kittens that I once tried to help. That’s a good thing.

Birdmad Girl is…hey, it’s actually a fairly good song…sort of.

There, does that help you any?

If I'm in the mood, I love the Top. It's certainly not my least favourite album, and is one of the most experimental for sure!

Re: Am I alone with this?

The Top is one of the most...authentic albums:) Mostly RS..playing most instruments and writing most, if not all, of the songs.

LOVE THE TOP

Was it Perry or Roger who kind of helped him out?

Um, what?

Are you fucking kidding me? The Title Song, all by itself, is enough to make this album a classic.

Add the rest of the songs? Are you high?

Idiota....I have really been trying to be sweet, but hell...

XOXO:)

Thanks everyone for your replies.
ErikAilums & Glimmer you're both hilarious! You made me laugh. It has shed some light on my question. I'll just continue listening and liking it and I guess we'll see if anyone else responds :-D

Haha yes, I seem to have a different opinion than you (okay, than EVERYONE) on this topic, but that’s just the way it’ll have to be—ain’t nothing I can do about it! No matter how many times I listen to the Cure albums, The Top always ends up (ironically) on the bottom.

Still, I never said it’s a bad album; I said that it’s annoying. Little sisters are annoying and yet quite lovable…well, most of the time.

Re: Am I alone with this?

The Caterpillar.
I love how it's happy on the surface and kinda doom-ridden beneath. It is so like life...in the pain that feels good at first...
And it is true, then, that love doesn't come naturally, we have to dust our lemon lies a bit first? ouch...
(please don't ever stop dusting...I don't want the truth!)
Actually, though, it makes me think of "put on a heart of compassion, kindness humility gentleness and patience, bearing with one another and forgiving each other.." Colossians 3. Until we put in on, we're not as nice as we seem. Just dusting sweet pink powder.

Shake Dog Shake is GREAT live. : D

Re: Am I alone with this?

"The Top" is in heavy rotation for me at the present. I love the "Concert/Curiosity" version of "Shake Dog Shake" and "Give Me It", F*ing amazing :) I sometimes forget about that album, then re-discover it and wonder why I stopped listening..Andy did a great job on the drums..(I do not wish to resurrect the drummer wars) :D

Re: Am I alone with this?

The Top is one of the best Cure albums. The overall acoustic sound is great. The guitar pedals used in that album were never used again in any other album afterwards. The way Robert sings is strange and again, never repeated again.

Re: Am I alone with this?

I love THE TOP! Actually it has "grown" this last year, from one of the least played to one of the most played.

Shake Dog Shake is also one of my favorites live.

Bird Mad Girl just makes me smile. Wailing wall is beautiful.

And the title song is awesome. It was so great to hear them play it live at the Hultsfred Festival last summer.

Re: Am I alone with this?

Love The Top! When springtime comes, it's my favorite! So artisticly free and...exotic(?) I also love WildMoodSwings which reminded me of the Top. I was so exited when The 13th came out. Guess I'm not the average Cure Fan either.

p.s. You might like the Talking Heads -Speaking in Tongues. I think the Top was kind of RSmith's reaction to this album. My favorite Talking Heads also.
