About Me:I have been listening to The Cure since I was 12 years old. Their music is timeless, and Robert Smith and the band members (past and present) are musical geniuses. I only wish they would bring back the keyboards (yes, I'm one of those people).

My Blog

God, The Cure, and the dove that visited us at our house in Las Vegas

It's strange how God has used The Cure's music and forum to bring some amazing friends into my life. I had the honor meeting two local Cure fans from the forum in 2008, JimJimmy and MissDrea, at the Crown and Anchor a British pub in Las Vegas) before the Cure concert in April 2008. As some of you might know, I've had the honor to meet many forum friends in person at our Cure forum meetup before the concert at The Pearl. Since the forum closed, I've reconnected with many forum friends on Facebook, which is great. I've been praying that The Cure will do a world tour in 2010 and that Cure fans who haven't been able to see them play in their country before will be able to see them. I hope this prayer gets answered, and that I will be able to see them play too. Many of you know from my past forum posts that my dad died when I was 10 years old and that I discovered The Cure at age 12. I mourned the death of my dad for many years, and The Cure's music has been the soundtrack to many wonderful and depressing times in my life. I could have never known how instrumental this band would be in my life and how God would bring special Cure friends into my life when I needed them. Although Robert Smith does not believe in God, I have been praying for his, Mary's, and his family's salvation and the rest of past and present band members. I wonder what will happen . . . I grew up in Idaho Falls, Idaho, and we never had any good bands play in our small town. I had tickets to see Depeche Mode and Nitzer Ebb, what I thought would be my first concert when I was 16. The concert was in Park City, Utah. My friends and I went to the concert, which was held on a ski slope, but it rained that day and the concert got rescheduled for the next day in Salt Lake City. We couldn't go, and I was very disappointed. However, years later, I was happy that this happened. I was living in London and attending university there to get my Master's degree in International Relations and Diplomacy. At the time, I shared a large flat with 4 friends from Spain and one who is Basque. One of my roommates, Alfonso, and our friend Luis were huge Cure fans. One day, I was listening to XFM (my favorite radio station in London), and they announced that The Cure would be playing at Shepherd's Bush Empire on December 17, 1997 (coincidentally, my now-husband and I got together as a couple on December 17, 2000). Alfonson, Luis, and I got tickets to the concert. I was pretty wild back then even though I've been a Christian for years, and we were smoking weed and drinking wine before the concert, and we were late for the concert, since we thought they would have an opening band. We had such an amazing time at my first ever concert, The Cure. We were dancing and having a great time. When we first arrived at the venue, no one was dancing, and the crowd was very somber and blase. We didn't care though, and we danced and partied away. Not long after, more people started to dance and loosen up. By the time they played "A Forest" (my theme song:)), people were moshing. After I met my husband, I prayed for years that we would get to see The Cure together in concert, and my prayers got answered in 2008 when we flew to see them play in Salt Lake City. Then, I prayed that they would play in Las Vegas, and my prayers got answered in 2009 with pit tickets to boot! Toward the end of the concert, I was in the 4th row back on Porl's side. That was a very special night. Meritaten and some of our forum friends snuck backstage to try to get an autograph for a lady I've never met, MaryEllen, who was dying. Her friend, Lisa, had posted a request on the forum asking how to get a letter that MaryEllen had writtten to the band. Thanks to JimJimmy contacting the head of The Pearl ahead of time, we were able to get her letter and gifts from Jimmy, other forum members, and me to the band. I know that she took them back to the band and she told Jimmy that Robert had received them, but I don't know if they looked through them. I hope so. Sadly, we weren't able to get an autograph for MaryEllen. I wouldn't have had the guts to try to sneak backstage if it weren't for her. Sadly too, she died not long after the concert. She is in a better place though, but she left behind a son who is in my age group. When we bought our house in Las Vegas, the lady who sold it to us said that the previous next door neighbors had 3 pure white doves, one of which had an injured leg. I prayed that I would get to see that dove, who I later called Dovey Dove. My prayer was answered not long after when I was in pain and sad. I went into our hot tub to soak, and I looked up and saw Dovey Dove for the first time. I had been crying because I missed my family and friends, and then I turned and saw Dovey. In the Christian faith, God's Holy Spirit is symbolized by a dove. To make a long story shorter, in time, Dovey built up trust with my husband, me, and our dog Ringo, and she would let me feed her and pet her. One day, I was praying for God to fill me with His Holy Spirit, and before I could finish my prayer, Dovey Dove came out of nowhere and nearly landed on my head (LOL). That's when I understood something I read in the Bible about the Holy Spirit descending on a person like a dove. She used to sleep under our patio umbrella for several nights in a row, and she would coo if I was inside and she wanted me to feed her. One day, Dovey was sitting on top of the chair diagonally from me, and Ringo went and dropped his toy near her chair like he wanted her to throw his toy to him. It was so cute. Ringo loves The Cure too, and he gets excited and jumps up at the TV when I put on the Trilogy DVD.
