Water water everywhere but not a drop to drink

Water For Elephants Did you have a favorite part of the book, Suzanne? I won't spoil it for you if you haven't finished it yet, but I do have some thoughts about it... Sara Gruen really takes us into the world of a circus train with her attention to smells, sounds, and sights. It's kind of funny, it's a girl author this time, telling the story from a guy's point of view. (I wonder if there's a reason Suzanne likes these books, are we being encouraged to try and think outside the box?) You get acquainted with an older, rather feisty gentleman at a nursing care facility and the story is told via flashbacks. Some of the occurrences are based in actual events, the author points out in an afterward, and this book is difficult to put down. There's a certain amount of toughness necessary to be part of a circus, and we get to see some of the harsh realities. There is some animal and human abuse and when times are tough, the less important circus members either don't get paid on time(the workmen) or fed on time(the straw eaters). We see Uncle Al's ambition to compete with Ringling Brothers'causing everybody to pick up after just unloading to chase the latest freak. There were some truly hysterical moments, like the time Jacob walks in on his roommate while he's clearly enjoying a magazine that has drawings of people having sex- "Get the f out!!" I think that is really funny because you know how dwarves' voices are...kind of like an adolescent boy's would sound like...and the fact that Jacob needed to be told more than once makes it all the funnier! It reminds me of a story when a friend of a friend of mine was going poo at his old job in a men's room where the door did not lock. A pretty groovy-looking Mexican guy walks in on him only to stop and stare at the tattoos on his thigh. Now I don't know if this friend of a friend used expletives, but he sure felt like it when the guy was all just standing there, transfixed by his tacks. "Will you leave?!" The guy comes to, shaking his head and averting his eyes, "Oh God, I'm sorry!" and rushes out, shutting the door behind him. Well that's all the time i have today to write about this...thanks again Suzanne! Please let me know what you're reading now! And I'd love to hear your thoughts on this book. : )

oh the itch!

When it was completely healed and the scabby thing fell off, all was well...and will be well. The itching BEFORE the thing was removed was MUCH MUCH worse. I'm still reading WATER FOR ELEPHANTS. It's interesting. I bought NEVER LET ME GO for my 14 year old grandson, but it's collecting dust. I win some, I lose some.

and relaxing! : ) Oh, hey, if you have a minute...i think it'd be really cool if folks posted on selseycat's thread wishing him a great bday. He's an excellent guitarist and he also plays this instrument that almost makes Hawaiian noises in Siren Song..a charming song actually...

funny

: D that you should say thanks for liking your songs--because one either likes something or they don't--it's not like it was an effort or anything!! : D Our weather is finally cooling down some--sheesh couple days ago it was 85 F in the shade in the evening..I dislike hot weather and prefer it to be colder...taking more efforts to stay out of the sun as am going to have a precancerous (why do they call it that?) spot removed off my left arm and now am thinking that a tatoo to look forward to afterwards would make it more fun, although my 11 year old doesn't like the idea--hey I could be doing something much worse! like a wee flower or something or maybe a cat..idk i've never honestly considered one before! I hope you're having fun at the faire. : ) Peace to you too!

hey there

ooh...kids screaming for the duration of the flight...I'm sorry to hear that. :/ Just imagining it gives one a headache! The good thing about books is they're there when you need them, tho, huh? You don't have to tell them to shut up and the time together is completely on the reader's terms. : ) but you arrived safely (yay!) ok...I'll hope a good sleep for you, then. Renaissance fair--in Texas...sounds fun! We've been dealing with Santa Ana conditions here in Southern Cal...how's the weather where you're at? I wrote down the titles of the books you mentioned...am about halfway done with TPODG and now Dorian is storing the picture in another room...and he's growing more sinister by the minute..but on a much lighter note! Yesterday I popped by your myspace and watched a couple of your videos ~~btw, I love your music, and your videos.: ) Especially the nature one with all the flowers. Delightful! Did you show Mushroomking your one of the wee sprite-like things dancing on toadstools? He'd probably like that- : ) If not, can I have your permission to show it to him?
